3400RL furnace questions

New to the Forum. I live in Kentucky and have recently purchased a 2009 Montana 3400RL. We're rebuilding the unit the unit. We're trying the furnace and found that it's real slow in heating the unit. Furnace is on and there is heat coming out of the exhaust. This unit has been sitting for about 18 months.
Is this normal? We've had several other pull behind RV's as well as a Newmar Mountainaire. Those units heat up pretty quick.

Seems like if the furnace is firing up and running normally then it should be producing adequate heat. Does it feel like you're getting enough air flow to the floor vents? After sitting that long is it possible that something has nested in the ducts and restricted air flow? You also might need to remove the wall in the belly storage and take a look at the ducting to make sure it's in good shape and well connected to the furnace.

And welcome aboard!

Agree with Jeff, would take a good look at your ducting.

Furnace issue

Thanks for the replay. Was checking how the unit was heating up and the temperature is at 56 degrees. Seems there is an issue in the ducts. Wasn't getting too much air out of any of the the ducts.
Looks like I'm going to start checking the ducts and the heating unit. There was heat coming out of the exhaust.
We're in the process of putting in new carpeting, so we tore out all of the carpeting. We have access under the stairs and see the ducts. I'm going to see if I can take the cover off in the basement to get access the the heater.

Check where the flexible duct attaches to the furnace. We have that come loose on a previous camper.

You can get an endoscopic camera that plugs into your phone and look down through your floor ducts for built up obstructions.

furnace issue

I left the gas on in the unit and I walked in today and I could smell propane in the unit, It wasn't strong but I still shut the propane off. Going to have to inspect the furnace from the ducts to the propane connections.

If you had propane smell in your rig, the alarm should have gone off and alerted you. They have a life span of 5 years. You may want to consider getting a new alarm. I just put a new one in our rig yesterday.

Gas alarm

Well, that's why we are rebuilding the rig. Stuff is missing and that includes the gas alarm.

UPDATE: Started working on the furnace and found that the fan will go on and the burner will start. After a few seconds, the burner would kick down. Checked the vents and they are clear. I disconnected the vents from the furnace and forced air comes from the furnace but only warm air comes out.
Might be the circuit board on the furnace is bad.
Another bad thing I found when looking under the floors of the unit and saw a large nest resting on the artic flooring. Going to be fun with that.

Yes, could be main board. But could also be the diffuser. You'll need to disconnect the propane and pull out the burner assembly to check but a rusty diffuser will limit or just not allow the furnace to burn. It could also be the propane regulator. I had to replace ours for not flowing the propane at an adequate rate for the furnace requirements. New regulator solved it. I suppose it could also be the propane valve in the furnace. I haven't had one of those go bad so not quite sure what symptoms it would have.

If the furnace turns on and blows, then shuts off, that's classic symptoms of a bad sail switch.
However, since the furnace burner lights then goes out, AND you are not getting much Airflow from the vents, I would suspect an obstruction. The sail switch is doing its job in that case (turning off the furnace). That's what it was designed to check for.
When my furnace kicks on, it blows so hard out the vents it actually lifts the linoleum on the floor a little.

While you are at it, I would remove and clean the burner, tube, wire contacts and everything you can reach.
