You might call it greed.... But if you ran a business and the government says no you can't drill more wells (or plant more wheat, or whatever) then you will scale back your operations. That is exactly what the oil companies have done. I think it is California, the refineries have gone from 14 or 16 down to 6. And one had something last month that shut it down. So even with oil, they can't refine it enough. Regulations cause a lot of problems in all areas.

I don’t spend my days and nights researching DEF- but the suspicion of Walmart SuperTech DEF seems to be an urban legend across many forums. Frankly I don’t get it. I have used it (guessing) 80% of the time since I bought my first diesel requiring DEF (2014 Chevy 3500) with no issues.

The Feds set the standards for what can be labeled and sold as "DEF". It isn't too complex of a formula. I buy what ever I find, preferably at the cheapest price. I am over 100K miles now and no troubles with the DEF system.

It’s no different with DEF than with oil or anything else. If you go to autozone,Walmart or anywhere else and by the house brand it’s made by somebody else. I’ve seen truck loads of autozone brand oil come out of the Citgo warehouse. It might have a little different additive formula but it’s still good oil, / DEF, / antifreeze, or whatever.

Our Harbor Freight store had some tools come in that had Milwaukee on them. Most things are private label. It’s like batteries there are four manufacturers that private label for everybody. DEF is like batteries choose the cheapest.

I won't use any DEF except for the Blue DEF. Had problems with the system two years ago and they had to change out the complete exhaust system. I was told to use only the Blue DEF by the Regional Rep from GM. He said the other brands are watered down more than the Blue and the computer sensors can be messed up by using the other brands. We even traded trucks to avoid any other problems with the DEF. Been using the Blue and have had no problems since. Coinsidence? Who knows but I'm not taking any chances!

Typical dealer response. I doubt any manufacture is going to go foul of these guys if they want to stay in business. Like fuel/oil, there is only so many companies that make the stuff. Take Walmart they don`t make def so do you think a corporate twit is going to tell the manufacture to water down the product by 10% and they would actually do it.? Try that in California and you would go to jail for the rest of your life. JUst sayin.
From thier web site:
DEF is closely regulated and has precise requirements for maintaining chemical purity and contains ingredients that are crucial to working in conjunction with the SCR system. Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel among others require that the DEF to be used with the SCR systems and meet all ISO guidelines and API requirements.

DEF is a simple mixture set by the Feds, all brands are the same, so I get the cheapest. We have a local chain of Farm and Ranch type stores that are cheaper than anywhere else.

I just bought a 2.5gal jug from Walmart in Ohio it was $11.89 with tax, brand was Tech something. Last year this stuff was $8.59 with tax, I looked through my old travel records. Their is no reason other than Pandemic scare to keep these prices going up. Otherwise they would have cancelled the state of emergency they put us in. Being in emergency conditions, they can do what they want, when they want. I'll stop believing in government over reach when they cancel and we can afford to travel freely once again.

Walmart SuperTech DEF was $7.89 per jug forever before the shutdown. I even found it for $6.99 a couple of times in late 2019. I think BlueDEF was running ~$12 at the time.
In August 2019 the young kids running the Austin office thought it would be cool fun to move the office downtown Austin. I told them I would come in for meetings but I would not be making the daily commute. My driving mileage has reduced to near zero - so has my DEF usage.

If Diesel becomes unavailable, this will mean no gas either, nor food in the stores.. Or medicine at the pharmacy. this is bad...

Its called inflation and all the associated epidemics in this country today. What are they caused by? Figure it out and change it if you can! Dont blame the farmer, the energy producer, the semi driver, the blue collar worker - just ask yourself how did we get here.

Just paid $3.09/g at a truck stop in Kentucky at the pump. With 73k on the truck it has never seen boxed DEF.
