Blackwater Blues !

I believe my Blackwater tank valve has pooped the bucket.
Question. Is it better to cut a hole in underbelly and gorilla tape it back in place .
Or try and unscrew section and lay it down to access valve.
Second question.
Would it be wise to replace with a electric valve that I have read comments on in the forum. The cable has broke not the valve as far as I know.

I would replace with a Valterra valve and cable. Not sure best method. Sometimes it is difficult to get the valve apart and re-assembled as it is very tight. But my replacement pulls with 2 fingers and moves easily. Others will agree. Good luck.

Having just repaired leaking grey and black tanks and replacing hydraulic hoses for the slide out I would say unscrew to access. It looks much more difficult than it actually is. Once I began i realized it was not a hard thing after all.
Have fun.

Unscrew and drop the coroplast. I replaced the cable pull valves with manual pull valves. They make extensions to the pull rods to get the handle where you need it. Cable pull valves are great if you like having problems at the very worst time.

You can follow the cables thru the rear bulkhead in the garage. Take out the panels and you probably can r&r the cable from there. Re rout the cables like in my picture by removing some of the bulkhead behind the convenience cover to take the strain and bends out of the cable. I did replace my valves also with Valtera and for that you will need to peel back the chloroplast.

Thanks for your input.
But on my 3750FL I think it's gonna be a little different configuration.

I haven't had this done, but a service shop has told me that the cable systems are typically dry and eventually get to a point where they don't operate very smoothly or hang up and hold the valve open or closed.

They typically grease/lube them if they replace valves or are working on the system. If you're tearing it all apart, you might check into lubing the cable system. I didn't get the details on how to do it, but there's probably a YouTube video out there somewhere.

Hint: Use the old cable to pull the new one through.

I had an issue with my black tank cable.
Took it to the shop as we were on the road.
Maintenance technician explained to me that on my specific model, the valve and cable are one unit.
Paid for both black and grey valves to be replaced.
Be prepared for excrement when you loosen up your valve.

There is a video out there showing how to install a grease zert. I did that and used a food grade grease so it won’t affect the rubber components. I cut the bottom and folded it back. Hard to find a tape to hold it closed. Be sure to fold it towards the front of your rig so the wind doesn’t catch it as you go down the road.

I just finished replacing my black tank dump valve and cable with a 3" Valterra valve and 72" cable. Running the cable was the easy part. Replacing the valve was the "crappy" part. A tech had previously taken out several rivets and reinstalled the coroplast with screws. That made access to the valve easier.

Opening the black tank is not so bad. Rinse real good with the trailer raised in a direction so as to drain the tank completely. Mine has to raise in the front and drains rearward. Then angle in the opposite direction to make any fluids go opposite the drain.

If you are using the cable style valve, prepare yourself mentally to do this procedure again.

Dropping the chloroplasts is simple,my cable(blk) failed with valve closed.not wanting to repeat the same mistake I put in Drainmasters, love them customer service and support, is very good.will be putting one on valley next, yes it's a little tight.2014 3582

In order to replace the black valve on my 2017 375FL, I had to cut the grey tank pipe and repair with a no-hub coupling... otherwise there was virtually no play in the piping to allow the valve to come out or the new one to slide in

Most people don't won't to drop the coroplast on account of the problem getting it back in place to screw up. Use a floor jack with a piece of wood on the cradle like a 3x3 piece of plywood or 1x8 about 4 or 5' long and start on one end and work toward the other screwing the coroplast up with an impact gun. This makes the job very easy and you won't dread having to do the job. I used self tapping screws with hex heads and it worked very well in places where there was already screws that the head striped. I used 72'' cables for black and gray tank with valterra valves but i'm going to replace the 72'' cable on the gray tank with a 96'' cable because the cable is tighter than I like. I have the 2014 model 3402rl Montana. Good luck with whatever direction you go.
