Just replaced my dealer-installed 50 amp with the recommended 80 amp frame circuit breaker, and immediately got no power at the pump! Then I remembered someone mentioned the little arm on the 80 amp Bussman that acts as a disconnect. Pushed it into the breaker housing and voila !
Thanks again to all who share the information and help us newbies avoid those big bills and hair-tearing sessions.

I was reading through this thread and was wondering if you figured out the reason for the smaller wire. I have the same setup in my 2018 Montana and was planning to install the 80 AMP breaker tomorrow. Not sure what to do about the extra wire, except to just hook it up in the same configuration to the new breaker. The smaller wire runs through a red connector that says "30 AMPS" on it.
Thanks!

MJohnston: I didn't determine the purpose of the 30 amp wire, just put the wires back as I found them before I swapped in the 80 amp breaker. So far, no problems.

Sorry...that is my first post and I'm a bit nervous! In my post I said that I couldn't find the breaker...I met that I couldn't find it in my RV! I've already ordered the 80 amp circuit breaker that I found on Amazon...thanks for the help on that! Now if I could only find where the 50 amp to be replaced, is located. Thank you for your help and patience!

find your pump set up, there should be a thick RED cable follow it back towards the battery. there should/will be a breaker between pump and battery, that is the 50amp you want to replace. 80 amp will look different and larger than the 50 amp.
up here in Michigan the 50 was resetting all the time with the cold weather, made the swap and no issues sense good luck.

Take a look at post #2 in this thread to see Bob's pictures of the breaker location.

I am guessing wire colors differ on models and years, but mine and pictures of others I have seen the wire to the pump from the battery is a large BLACK wire. In any event, look for a pump similar to the picture below. The device sitting on top of the pump is the reverse polarity contactor and the wire to the center post on top will be the power wire from the battery thru the auto reset 50 amp circuit breaker. Follow that wire to find the breaker that needs to be replaced by the 80 amp breaker. There will be 2 or 3 breakers probably mounted to the wall near the battery. But the one with the wire to the pump is the one.

Auto electric supply, Napa or similar should carry them... I'd personally get the auto reset 80amp one. Some have got the manual reset tho...

I also found some loose connections when I installed the new breaker, so it's a good idea to check everything you can while doing this.

Thank you Bob for posting these pictures. Today I am upgrading my 50 amp to the 80 amp circuit breaker. Is it ok to upgrade both breakers to the 80 amp ones? I bought two.

Personally if I had never had a problem with the second breaker I would not replace it with an 80 amp. And if I did, the first thing would be to make sure the wiring from it is sized to handle 80 amps. The wire to the pump is short, visible, and hanging in free air so heating is not really an issue. The wires from the other one disappear in different unseen directions.

Since I originally posted about the 80 amp breaker, the other large wire on the same terminal as the pump wire is the one that connects to the main panel via the battery disconnect switch. You don’t have load from the panel when operating the slides and leveling system and when you are using the loads on the panel you aren’t operating the hydraulics, so this arrangement works just fine. As far as replacing the other small breaker for a larger one, I would not because all the loads that can be on it are much less than it is rated for and to double it will be like not having any protection on those circuits. If something were to short, you will seriously melt the wire that is faulted which could cause a fire.

The other breaker not the one you replace for the 80amp is only a 30amp I would not change that to a bigger breaker as Bob has said.

The smaller red wire that has the 30A inline fuse goes to your pre wired solar install.

80 amp / 50 amp / 30 amp
I did some thing similar. I used an 80 amp breaker for the hydraulic pump, a 50 amp breaker for the internal 12v fuse panel and a 30 amp breaker for every thing else. I found all of the breakers on Amazon.
I have a 2015 RL 3100. It was originally wired with a 50 amp and 30 amp self resetting breakers. The hydraulic pump would often cut out from the overloaded 50 amp breaker when I was hitching/unhitching. My 50 amp breaker was also tripping out at much lower than 50 amps due to it constantly tripping. It's performance was deteriorating from so much "use".
I'm not sure why Keystone was even using the 50 amp breaker for the hydraulic pump. The Lippert "Level Up" installation manual calls for an 80 amp breaker. I called Lippert and confirmed this.
I also was pretty impressed with Lippert customer service, they were both knowledgeable and responsive.
