Sailun tire failure

Happened again. Tires set 110 psi cold. Tpms caught the failure before it was an expensive failure. 2nd time it saved my butt !!

This is unsettling since we have heard very little about any problems with Sailuns.

A few questions:
1. What did the TPMS do to alert you as it appears the tire still had pressure?
2. The separated tread flying around didn't tear up anything nearby?
3. Is this an 80 or 85 aspect ratio tire?

4. Is this tire on the same side as the last one that failed?
5. What is the Date Code on the tire?

As DQDick wrote, this is very disconcerting given the recommendations for these tires.

1. Yes tire still has pressure. I was alerted to low pressure alert.

2. As soon as I got the alert I stopped got very lucky !!

3. 235 80 16

4. No different side. I have another Vietnam sailun that I’m considering removing.

5.

I emailed them, I think… I’m currently in Jackson hole WY so not sure what I’m going to find when I go looking for a tire. You would think it would be warrantied but I’m only here for 5 days so I’m sure I’ll end up buying something.

I had a brake disintegrate. The spring wire came out the inspection hole and rubbed a groove in the tire.
I ended up getting the sailun replacement tire at a commercial truck tire shop. Ordered it, it was there the next day. I could have gone through Walmart but it would take a week and they would not mount it or balance it.

I have a set of 4 sitting in my truck right now to have mounted this morning. Just got them from Simple Tire. I hope this isn't a trend!

UPDATE: Mine are also ST235/80R16 Date Code: 5120, Made in Vietnam.
Just checked SimpleTire's website, No Warranty.

There is warranty information in their product sheet in their reference below.

http://gosailun.com/Content/images2/...S637T_1120.pdf

You might want to ask Sailun why a tire having "made in Vietnam" on it's sidewall has a plant code 1Y (1Y - SHANDONG HUATAI TYRE CO., LTD. - CHINA)?

If I am reading the Date Code ("4020") correctly, this tire is less than 1 year old. The Sailun warranty says it will replace it at no cost. You can read the warranty policy here:

I follow tire threads closely on this and other RV forums. If my memory serves me well, this is only the second time I've heard of a Sailun failure, the first being caused by a road hazard. OP, please follow-up if you find out what could have caused the failure.

Agree, we have been running them for years, on our third set, never an issue. Of course Sailuns are not immune to picking up a nail, piece of metal, and a subsequent slow leak. We do keep our speed at 65.

I am glad you didn’t have any major damage. I did a lot of research back in 2016 and at that time was only able to verify one blowout back then which was caused by installation of those tires on a dually. Those tire back then were only rated for single wheel applications. I surely will not panic at the failure rate yet. Lots of these tires in use with heavy fifth wheels and a very good track record. I have not kept up with the S 637 discussions but three failures with one being used incorrectly and the other involving a road hazard still isn’t a bad record. I will continue to run my Sailuns and continue to inspect them as I have been doing since I installed them on my 3160.
Happy and safe roads to you.

Tom Marty

I hear ya, I’m in the same boat and agree that sailuns are good tires. From some questions I received the made in China ones may be different from the made in Vietnam. I don’t know anything for sure but did contact big O tire and the warranty process has started.

I just had the same failure with Sailun tires purchased 2 months ago. Date code 4120. Pressure carefully monitored. TPMS saved me from damage.

It looks like the tread separated?
Is that correct?

Send a message via MSN to dhuhn
These two look like same date code only a week apart I’m wondering if there’s a manufacturer error in the batch of tires produced

Would Walmart have honored warranty?
