Another Sailun tire failure

2016 Montana 3950BR 40 feet dual axle.

S637 tires 235/80R/16. Date code 4120. Tire pressure carefully monitored and checked to 110 cold. TPMS alerted and saved me. Informed me I had a leaking tire.

Tires were purchased about 2 months ago. They have about 500 miles. Other 3 look ok. Normal interstate driving.

Now I need a replacement to get me though this trip.

Leaking tire or the rim itself could have a crack? Treadit has a lifetime warranty on the rims that are only rated at 3750 lbs, where as the Sailun tire are rated 4000+lbs. We have gotten rid of the stock rims because of the rims themselves not holding up. We now run with steel rims and no tire issues since.

I’ll probably replace the rims at some point. Went out and carefully checked the rims using a good flashlight. No visible cracks although it could be internal. Pressure on the failed tire this evening read 104.5 psi.

Interesting thing is it looked like it was failing in a similar fashion to the other post. I just happed to catch it earlier.

Sailun Tire Failure

I caught a Sailun tire failure during a pre-trip inspection this past June.
Those tires were manufactured in 2017 & had ~ 10k - 15 k miles on them.

Here is a link to my post.

What does the wear pattern look like on the other three tires.

Were these original equipment tires or replaced OEM?

What TPMS system? Any idea what pressure the tires climbed up to while driving? Guessing might have been 115 psi and dropping to 104 might set alarm off.

Just as an FYI, I put the same Sailun on my spare. Simple Tire supplied my set in three days. Send them the picture, they might rush it.

These were brand new tires with probably about 400 miles on them. I purchased through Walmart online, picked up at store, and had Discount Tire mount them.

We bought a used 2016 Montana a few months back and the first thing I did was replace the Trailerking tires. Tire wear looks normal on the other 3 tires.

TPMS system is a TireMinder. It appears to have worked correctly as expected. Alerted me to that tire and we were able to pull into a truck stop. That tire lost about 5 psi and still holding at like 104 but in the truck bed now.

The very reason i haven't jumped on the Sailuns band wagon. 500.00 + for 4 tires mounted & balanced ,Really ? My daddy always told me Son you get what u pay for. Just can't wrap my head around the fact that people go out & pay 50 to 100k for a brand new 5th wheel to immediately replace tires made in China by a Chinese company with another Chinese tire made by a Chinese company? Gonna run my Rainiers (12 ply) for a couple years or until 1 blows . Herculese H901 ST tires are made in Malaysia but owned by Cooper tire an American company. 890.00 for 5 tires mounted, balanced & out the door.

Sorry you had an issue and I will be interested in if Sailun helps you out in any way. Goodyear sells some really expensive tires that have a lot more reported failures and has been known to help out on tire failures, hopefully Sailun will help out.
Boy that tire does look bad. Looks like it was towed quite some time to get that much wear especially when you have the tire monitor system. Were the tires balanced and if they were did it appear that maybe they lost a balance weight? Another thought is if the alignment on that axle is possibly bad? I had a Vanguard Unit that had one tire always wearing out as the alignment was out on the DS rear tire. Even had one blowout but that was way before tire pressure monitoring systems were even thought about. Maybe Vietnam made tires could have some issues. I am one of those people who bought them and have had no trouble. Pretty sure the majority of Sailun tire owners are still happy with their purchase. Sailun also makes over the road truck tires and I am confident in my S637 tires.
I am glad your system alerted you and everyone is safe.

Happy and safe roads to you.

Tom Marty

OK, there were a couple tire failures but are they random events or is it just the beginning of a trend where a good tire no longer is reliable (think 1980-90s Firestone) and has joined the long China Bomb list. I just did a very short wander around the net and a couple other forums and while found 3-4 others who have had Sailun failures of one kind or another, don't really see a burgeoning trend of one failure after another.

What are your other reliable choices? They may be there but what are they? Simple Tire have dozens of brands but many that I've never heard of in any context. Goodyear Endurance? Not for me after my past 5er Marathon experiences or Wranglers on past pickups plus their pricing is ridiculous for tread depth/wear life expectancy

I have used Goodyear G614s in the past with good results. Made in USA.

Yet , go online and see the failures of the G614 , those Sailuns got a long ways to go before they catch those Goodyear’s in failures AND damage . Plus they are nearly double in cost .

As said in previous post , pay twice as much for Goodyear’s , and it sure didn’t get a lot of folks anything but damaged Rv’s and sitting on the side of the road .

That is an awful lot of wear for only 400-500 miles. My Sailuns don't look at all like that and I have 20K miles on them now. Something is out of wack for that tire, alignment/pressure/wheel bearings?

Agree X2
4th year on my Rainer 14ply G rated tires and they still look like new. I mind the pressure, speed, and always park them on rubber mats when parked long term or in storage. Pull at 65 to 70. Tpms for peace of mind.

In May 2019, I had Sailun H 80s put on my 2010 3400RL when I had Moryd IS and disk brakes installed, then took a long trip to Idaho, Alaska, NWT, etc. Noticed one of the tires was wearing badly on one side. Made it back to Moryd on that tire. They agreed their alignment was faulty and redid gratis. I kept that tire as the spare.

Spring 2020, driving from winter quarters in Austin to Fort Worth, had complete failure of the least used tire (that had been the spare on trip to Alaska) with some damage to the trailer. Since the spare was badly worn, I decided to go to nearby tire store. They didn't have H tires, so I replaced all 5 tires with E tires.. I wasn't aware of warranty on Sailuns.

maybe because there are twice as many Goodyears on the road than Sailuns. I've been running G614's for many years, keep the air up, watch your weight and weight distribution, no problem

Is there a tire brand that has no history of failures?
