Sailun Recall

Found this at NHTSA site, looks like Sailun has recognized its problem:

NHTSA Recall No. 21T018
"Sailun Tire Americas, Inc. (Sailun) is recalling certain Sailun, RoadX, Blacklion, Blackhawk, and Ironhead brand tires, sizes ST235/80R16 and ST235/85R16 with DOT codes 2020 through 4120. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tires may experience a belt separation. Belt separation could lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Sailun will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in December 2021. Owners may contact Sailun customer service at 1-844-281-9696."

Can someone show a tire newbie like me how to find the DOT codes? My tires on my 2020 Montana (mfg 11/1/19) are Sailuns.

First picture, check your tire size.

Second picture, good tire. Yes it has the 1YJ plant code (made in Vietnam) but the manufactured date code 4920 (49th week of 2020) is outside the recall dates.

Third picture, bad tire date code 4020

Great news and time to inspect my tires. I have a 2021 3791RD. We don’t need a blow out towing. Thank for the post.

NICE all the hard work pays off. They have already paid me for mine to include damage. I put boar tire and commercial tires on, but I may check the dates anyway and get replacements for the next owner when we sell... sometime lol

I called the number listed. According to the guy I spoke with you have to take it to a dealer to have them replaced. That’s a bit of a problem for me since I don’t have a dealer near by and I had ordered them online and had them mounted locally. The guy had no clue how to deal with my situation so I’m waiting for a call back.

Go back to your online dealer. If it was Simple Tire they are usually very helpful.

This is all well and good but did they say they fixed the manufacturing problem. And wondering if this applies to the 85 series tires not just the 80`s. I`m going to hold off buying new tires till next year and let the smoke clear on this issue. Or go to the new Hankook tires.

So I am interpreting the PDF above that the recall is only for 2 tire sizes only, both sizes are for 16” wheels.

Y’all please let me know if that is not correct and other sizes are involved for this recall.

Thank you

The website does NOT show a recall on S637's yet. And only 4 complaints. Surprising considering all the posts about them.

I first tried calling the number listed for Sailun. They said to call my dealer. I bought them at Simpletire so I called them. They say that I need to call Sailun! So, I tried Sailun again. Now they say to call my local tire dealer (Les Schwab) and they'll take care of it. I'm going to drive over there tomorrow and see what they say. I'll keep you posted.

Does Sailun website have a “find a dealer” feature?

Apparently, this week was a little early to attempt a Sailun tire replacement. I went to my local Les Schwab and they told me they could order a new set of Sailuns (or similar tire) which I would pay for. I was then told to send the receipt to the original dealer (in my case, Simpletire.com) and they would reimburse me. This sounded a little sketchy so I called Simpletire and they said we should call Sailun! When I called Sailun, THIS time I was immediately asked if this was regarding the recall. I was then told that the recall was really only made official this Friday (12/10/21) and that the notices hadn't yet been sent out to all the dealers. They said to wait until mid next week and Les Schwab should get the notification and will replace and mount/balance my tires at no charge. Once again, I'll keep you posted.
