Both Vent Fans not working 2016-3820FK

Our bathroom and kitchen vent fans have both stopped working. W'then I try to open them the manual knob moves slightly but doesn't spin. If I manually turn them the vent cover does open. I suspect a power issue but don't know where power comes from.

Make sure the rain sensors, if you have them, aren’t wet. We had one close in the middle of the night from heavy dew and in the morning it wouldn’t open. Opened it manually and dried off the sensor and all was good. I found as I am sure others already know, running the fan on low seems to keep that from happening.

Hello,
Thanks for the information. You were correct.
Both fans are working correctly today. We had the AC running and the humidity was high the past couple of days. I think condensation settled on the rain sensors like you suggested.
Again, Thank You
Paul

I put covers over both fans. Very handy when raining.

Yep, Maxxair vent covers are on the list for when we get home next month. Living in the Monty this winter is the “ try it the way it is” learning curve. Didn’t want to spend too much on it until I used it a while before deciding which gadgets to get

We also have a 3820FK, ours 2017, we have had issues with the kitchen fan since the very beginning. we used to turn on the fan and the refrigerator would shut off. now we can't even turn the fan on, we can only open the vent cover. we had installed the external covers in the very beginning so were pretty sure we don't have a moisture issue. any ideas? switch maybe?

The 2016 3820FK's were originally wired into the refrigerator circuit. Our 1st year the fan would send the Norcold into an error message. We didn't figure this out, due to turning the fan on and leaving for a short outing, only to come back and find the fridge not working. The dealer maintenance people, rewired the fan circuit to another circuit and that solved our problem. The 1st year only had one fan up front over the table. They knew about this early on and there were several older posts on this subject in the forum.

Those mechanisms frequently break the gears. I was lucky in that I was replacing mine anyway so I didn't care when I found the first unit with busted gears. Can't remember if they need to be lubed or not, Get on the roof and start disassembling to get to the little gear box and watch what happens when you turn the handle. Mine opened up the gear case.

Roof fans

My 2017 Montana High country 374FL After 2 years of little use, had both kitchen and bathroom fans develop problems. Contacted MaxxFan and spoke to technician, and they said that anything over a certain voltage would cause problem. On shore power it is always over the voltage he cited.

Replaced both circuit boards and neither work properly. One only opens and closes and if trying to turn fan on causes lid to close. The other will open and not close having to get ladder to close manually.

Leave the ladder outside someone here posted about how they modified the end of a 1 1/2” piece of pvc pipe to fit the knobs on the awning adjustment. I thought that was a great idea so I made up one with a 2 1/2’ piece of pipe.
When my fan lid closed and wouldn’t open, I went out and got that pipe and cut 3 notches in the other end to fit the 3 winged knob on the fan. Easy peasy

The power is from the RV battery.
The gear that raises and lowers is likely destroyed but disassemble and check if it can be saved.

BS, the fans are run from the RV battery. The fail point on those is the gear that raises the lid.

Yeah, I thought that was strange that shore power would affect them. No matter what you put into an inverter, you’re either going to get the 12v-14v or you’re going to get nothing. It’s the basic principal of a UPS.

Given that, my gear bodies have given up the ship in two of my three fans within 5 days of each other. I’m pretty dependent on them as I leave my pups in the trailer while I’m at work and the trailer tends to heat up during the day.
Is this a part that CW normally carries? I bought the extended warranty when I bought the trailer this past November, but in case it’s a drawn out argument, I’d like to be able to fix it myself. Is MaxAirr easy to work with? I’m getting the impression that their techs are quick to pass the blame off them.
