Roof vent

Main roof vent will not open or close, fan will not work.. It had rained after drying out opened and later would not close and fan won't work . I manually closed. Any ideas we're to start? Seems like no power to vent at all. One in bathroom works great

First thing would be to check for a fuse that has failed. You could also check for power at the fan if you have a volt meter.

Make sure that the rain sensor is not wet or damp. Also make sure that it is clean from dirt. Anything get's around that sensor the fan shut's down...

The main reason for most of the fans and vents not opening is because the gasket around the base of the door/vent window has dried out and makes the door stick to it. I go up on the roof several times a year and slowly open the vent with my hands while the DW is running the switch to open it. If it has been stuck and you've tried to open it, it may have blown the fuse up in the fan. It is in the top of the fan and you can see the screw in or on fuse holder cap. It's a small glass fuse when you remove the cap. If you go up on the roof be sure to take something to put on the gasket to soften it so the door does not stick to it. I use 303 on mine which Fantastic Fan recommended over the past years. In fact, I use 303 on all the gasket in and around the Monte.

Thanks to all, found out it’s a Maxxfan, so it was a major search to find phone number. They do not like to talk to fix it yourself guys, but they had me drop down fan to check circlet board and it start to run, lose wire our maybe a bad circuit board, but now it working fine.

When you own a Montana you have to become a RV tech

I think that goes for any RV or motorhome based on what I read on various forums...but that is why I read this forum! No matter what the question is or what the problem is - somebody here has been there/done that/ and got the tee-shirt.

In hind sight - I wish I had taken auto shop, agriculture (FFA) and wood shop in high school in stead of some of the lofty classes I thought would get me into college. All of those classes would come in handy for me now! Similarly - I wish I had joined the military and seen the world - but in 1976, I met my future DW and decided I she was more interesting than seeing the world.

Mike - You didn't need wood shop if you took Ag (FFA). I took ag and one years was motors, one year was electicity, one year was wood shop. I grew up on a farm and didn't like it. But it has certainly helped my with home maintenance and RV maintenance.

Twindman - I did not take Ag or wood shop or auto mechanic shop(regretfully), and my Dad was not a mechanic. He was a coach, teacher and principal. I have been working in construction for 42 yrs - but pushing a pencil and a calculator - now a laptop...not swinging a hammer. I have learned a lot on my own - but my level of carpentry skill is best described as "rustic when viewed at 50 feet". Reading this forum helps me get thru a lot of fixes and projects...most of which get final approval by DW.
