Diesel prices crazy

Noticed today that diesel was 50 cents per gallon higher than 87 gasoline. I know the price is up due to winter home heating oil demand. But have never seen that price gap.

Bought my 1st diesel truck in 2004 and diesel was 8-10 cents cheaper than gasoline. Six months later diesel passed up gasoline and never looked back.

In our neck of the woods, diesel is higher during the winter because it's blended with basically kerosene to make it pourable.

Our local truck stop actually has a sign on their pump telling you when they have winter fuel in the tank...

Not there anymore, but for years diesel has been real high in New Mexico in the oil field. Everything from the service trucks, tanker trucks and the rigs themselves use diesel and the fracking folks use propane by the thousands of gallons so that's high also.

It's always higher here.
I can remember when it was 1/2 the price of gas.

#2 diesel is also the same as #2 home heating fuel. Between the winter blend plus the folks with diesel fuel furnaces up North for their S&B creating extra demand, our truck fuel always goes up this time of year. This year the upward tick in prices is way beyond the norm, but then again so is the cost of most everything else now days. Made a business trip from northeast Texas to southern Louisiana and back Monday. Local to us fuel prices went up 10 cents a gallon between the time we left and when we got back home. Going to be hard to budget when prices of nearly everything going up.

Yesterday, I forget the name, but he is in the Oil business, look for prices between $4.00 to $5.00 per gal, in the next few months. We knew in 2021 what was going to happen. We know the truth. Keep in mind everything is transported at one time or another by Trucks, Trucks use Diesel, everything is going to increase in price. With the push for EV''s (????) this to will force up Diesel prices. America runs on Diesel. I remember when Diesel was cheaper that Gas. We are in for hard times.

Happy trails.

I recall several years a when fuel prices went high. Lots of folks didn't rv recreationally and it sure made it a lot easier to get into normally crowded parks. Funny what people spend money on. It's likely they'll have the latest iphone and eat out 3-4 times per week but refuse to pay an extra $100 in fuel for an rv trip. I would rather conserve if need be in other areas and pay for the fuel to go on that rv trip.

Yeah, So California you're looking at $4.70 a gal. We just got back from Eagle, Idaho and it's a $1.00 cheaper for every fuel blend. We try and save money by using our Albertson's/Von's rewards points, which can save you up to $1.00 a gallon, good for 25 gallons of fuel.

Fill the tank when it is only 1/4 empty. It won't seem like it bites the pocket book as much!

I refill the OEM tank at 1/4 down also. I will put some in the Transfer tank will I here the prices are going up, only about 36 gals, or so. Depends on what the price of Oil is. I learned a very long time ago, not to worry about how many MPG nor the cost, it is what it is. The prices will continue up for the next 3 years. Then we hope things will get better. It is devastating what is happening.

When we had the Freightliner Sports chassis fuel was over $4.00 a gal out near California, I would normally refuel when it was at 1/4 of a tank, we had to twin 80 gal tanks.

Happy trails.

Could the reasons why diesel prices are generally higher than gasoline are due to increasing demand by commercial trucks and rv'ers, tight supply as a result of limited refinery ultra-low sulfur diesel production capacity and refinery shutdowns and higher federal excise taxes?

Don’t know how much impact it has on prices, but there are far more diesel pickups on the road now than 20 years ago. And from the looks of it, most of those are daily drivers.

I love a good unsourced comment but current experts in the field are expecting an average of 2.96 a gallon for diesel this summer.

Prices have stayed pretty stable around here over the last couple of months ($3.45 cash).

It's my understanding that NO president can really take credit for low, or be blamed for high, fuel prices.

https://money.howstuffworks.com/pres...gas-prices.htm

If that's the implication then George W. had the highest prices at $4.70 in July 2008 and Barack the lowest at $2.00 in February 2016.

Yes,^^^ believe the “experts” not your lying eyes. In 2020, the US was exporting oil, because we had a surplus, and fuel
Was cheap. As of 2021, we are back to importing oil, and the price per barrel has increased, and so has the price at the pump. This is what you get when you ban exploration, cancel leases, ban fracking, ban drilling in ANWR, and ban pipelines.

In 2020 the US exported 8.51 MMb/d and imported 7.86 MMb/d of petroleum products. But the US imported 5.88 MMb/d of crude oil while only exporting 3.18 MMb/d of crude oil. So no the US wasn’t energy independent and the US wasn’t a net exporter of Crude Oil. As for the reason gas was cheap, there was a large supply and low demand. Why was there a large supply? Because the Trump admin convinced OPEC to increase production by almost 2 million barrels a day. As for your other comments about bans, they factually incorrect. Existing leases weren’t canceled there was a pause on new leases but so what since the Biden administration is continuing to approve new leases and drilling. Fracking isn’t banned even though Trump claimed Biden would. What pipelines were banned? That’s right none have. The Keystone XL is a short cut for an existing already operating pipeline that transports Canadian oil for Asian use primarily. As for ANWR yeah Biden canceled the leases. Why because they only brought in 14 million dollars for one. Republicans said the leases would bring in millions more. Shouldn’t the gov get the most $$$ for public land use by a corporation? What else do you have? Google is free my friend stop taking unfounded talking points from opinion journalists and do some research.
