Time for Utah
Our 90 day committment is up at Steamboat Lake on the 19th. We both have been getting "hitch itch" for two weeks or more. We plan on going back to Denver to see the boys for two or three days and then on to Utah for a month or so, maybe longer if the weather holds. From what I have seen, we will have to criss-cross the state to see all we want to see there, but we are retired and have plenty of time. After that, we will try to finish up a trip we started last year and go to San Diego CA.
Ain't life grand??

Be prepared for all the Europeans touring Utah in September!! They were everywhere! One group was motorcyclists from Germany or somewhere up north. They had someone with a fairly large tow behind pickup trailer going along to help with luggage and repairs I think. There were 10-20 cycles, if my memory is right.

They must do the same thing in May because we ran into them just outside Capitol Reef. They were all riding BMWs and wearing black. Some of the women had on high heels, if you can believe that!

I recommend driving Scenic Highway 12 between Bryce Valley and Capitol Reef. I do not recommend towing on this road, and we were so glad we decided to do a day trip over to Capitol Reef before moving the Monty as we would have towed on Hwy 12. So many places to enjoy, we had a wonder place to picnic under a huge Cottonwood by a flowing stream in Fruita.

I second the recommendation on Utah 12 highway--one of the most scenic of all our trips.
However, we towed our fifth-wheel all the way from Bryce to Torry, Utah without a moment's difficulty or concern. I certainly would not hesitate to do it again.
And there are routes I avoid, such as Highway 550 from Silverton to Ouray, and I haven't even tried Slumgullion Pass.
Highway 12 is not in this category in my experience.

We will be heading to Salt Lake in a few weeks after a stay at Flagstaff. Just found out that US89 from the South Rim to Page, AZ is closed. So we are using 89A to Kanab and then into the Bryce area. We will drive 12 without the Monty and spend sometime in Bryce (been there before). Also be aware of the switchbacks and tunnel entering Zion from the east--not something I would want to do with the Monty. We have a daughter in SLC and enjoy many of the National Parks in Utah. Hope you get to enjoy them!

I will watch out for Germans on motorcycles. They make such a mess of the undercarriage.
Hopefuly, we will find good spot to boondock near the parks and do several day trips
