Check Wind Forecast

Potential in Colorado, Texas and New Mexico at a minimum for excessive winds

Be Safe

We always keep an eye on the weather a few days out when traveling (even camping, because we are usually touring/hiking).
There us an App called Windy that is very useful.
IF you absolutely have to travel in windy conditions, put water in your freshwater and holding tanks. Not necessarily full (they can leak). Full tanks for me adds 1,600lbs. Also useful if high winds (storms, hurricane) are expected and you can't move to get out of the way.

A friend in Wyoming told me the days the wind blows in Wyoming. It starts in January 1 and stops on December 31.

Another place you can get in trouble fast is on the North Carolina and Virginia border on I77 at Fancy Gap. It’s a natural funnel that increases the wind speed up the mountain. It can be fairly calm on the bottom and top of the mountain and very high winds going the mountain. High enough to blow tractor trailers and campers over. If the sign says high winds believe it. It’s the only place I know of where I’m worried. I had a 2X10 blow out of my truck bed.

The strong winds also made DEF disappear

A couple of years ago we got stuck along I-80 in Wyoming for 6 hours waiting on the wind to drop below 60 mph. Wyoming does have wind sensors stationed along I-80 (maybe other places too) that you can access online. My wife says we're never traveling I-80 through Wyoming again
