Riding nose high

Hi Everyone !

This is my first time posting onto this forum. ME and my wife recently got into the 5th wheel scene moving from a 26 ft TT and are loving it so far. I had put in a Pullrite super glide on IS rails that are under-mounted so the hitch can be completely removed and have the truck bed flat. Issue is, with the IS rails the hitch sits high in the truck bed. I already adjusted the pinbox up to the highest bolts and when I add air to airbags its got about... 9-10 " of clearance from bedrails. From the jacks to the ground the front is 14" off ground and read is 6" off ground.

I was given the option of adding blocks ( which will keep clearance in bed) or to change pinbox. I was wondering if the MorRYDE pinbox replacing the road armor pin sits more flush vs angles and will lower the nose for me. The axle appears to already be "flipped" with leaf springs above per other advice I've read.

Welcome. Just a quick bit of info, 9-10 inches is a lot of clearance to your bedrails. Most of the time the recommendation is 6 inches. Mine is at 5 and 1/2 and I have no trouble. Good luck and enjoy your rig!

I was hoping to lower the clearance to 5-7 inches by changing the kingpin …. Does anyone know if that would work switching from stock to morRYDE ?

The pin box is as high as you can get and you are still way nose high (14" at the jacks and 9" at the rear). I suspect you have 16+" of clearance from the rails at the hitch. I doubt the Mor-Ryde will be much different from the existing Road Armor.

Too many hear have the Pull-Rite hitch with normal 6" rail clearance so it seems the IS function is more of the problem? I don't have nor know squat about the Pull-Rite. My friend has one in his Dodge and he has the normal clearance. Of course he rarely removes the hitch as it is a beast.

That's the only problem with the Superglide. I don't think it is height adjustable. Some sliders such as the B&W Companion and Curt Q do have height adjustment.

I have a Superglide with a MorRyde pin box. I think I have 6-7 inch bed clearance but do run maybe an inch or two nose high. I guess maybe each truck sits a little different.

Good morning to all. Have you measured the overall height of your unit (to the top of the front a/c unit?) I am curious about the bridge clearance in the current configuration. The ride profile can be adjusted several different ways to get the unit level and riding correctly and have an acceptable bed clearance. Just make sure in the end, you still have an overall height that provides the bridge clearance that you need.

Nose high is one thing but that also generates TAIL LOW condition which could generate bigger issues. King pin looks like it could go up several holes. Trail shop did a little trim and moved mine up.

So originally it has 3 holes where the pinbox connects to the trailer. I moved it up higher because the original bed clearance was like nearly 12". now its about 9". Still too tall. So it seems like my only options are to change the IS rails the pullrite sits on to the lower profile non removable style, or add leveling blocks to the back.

The reason I was asking about the switching the pinbox was because it appeared at first it was slimmer profile. It seems my issue is the additional height from this kit the pullrite is sitting on.

@Mwebb61 I’m having the same problem with my MHC 295 RL and 21 RAM 4x4 2500. The nose sits 5” higher than the manufacturers stated height at 13’9”. I worry about both bridges and dragging the rear leveling jacks. I have about 8 1/2” of bed rail clearance so I can move the pin box up to gain 2 1/2”. After that, I’m out of options as I do not believe my PullRite Superglide hitch is adjustable. My setup is just like yours. If you find a way to drop the hitch, please post to keep us informed.

I don’t have a slider but do use a 2 inch tubular frame to mount my Demco Recon hitch and had similar issues with nose high and 8 inches of clearance to the bed rails. The solution for me was to go max height on the pin box mount and min height of 16 inches on the Demco hitch, leaving a 6 inch rail clearance. I went with the Demco Recon bc it comes apart in 3, 50 lb pcs that I’m able to handle. Trailer measures 13’-9” hitched - F350 drops about 4 inches but rides level.

You may need a different slider and to measure your current slider height to see where it’s at compared to what’s needed/available.

Don’t know if this Demco slider is right for you guys and if it works with your mount but it does have a 16 inch min height and looks like it might be reasonable to remove. The folks at etrailer are pretty good about answering questions.

I know it's an expensive ordeal but do yourself a favor and take it to more ride have the independent suspension and disc brakes put on. They will make sure your trailer leaves their shop towing perfectly level. They will also probably recommend a mor ride pin box.
These are by far the best modifications you will ever do to your trailer. It will ride much smoother and stop on a dime. Also your suspension issues will be over before they even start, and trust me they will start. If it's not a broken spring it'll be a broken weld broken wet bolt missing wet Bolt Etc

As I posted earlier, I finally spoke with someone at Pullrite that gave me direction instead of saying "it can't be done". I have a #2700 ISR superglide. This person told me to look at Curt, Reese, and mopar ISR compatible rails that mount using the puck system. I found this one, https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...ails=.questins, on eTrailer after repeated calls and googling. According to the literature, it has a height of 2" versus the Pullrite rails of 3 1/2" and will work with the #2700 hitch.
In my situation, raising the pin box and using this Reese rail adapter will get me very close to my desired change of 5".

I had clearance issues with my Superglide factory pin box until I switched the pin box to the GenY Executive 5th wheel pin box. Not sure if it would work the same for you, but not only did my clearance issues go away, so I could have clearance and get level, but I ended up with a smoother towing experience because of the torsion flex design. You might call and speak with them, they have great customer service and answered a lot of my questions prior to my purchase.

I had a 3"sub frame above my axles. I needed to lower nose high. I have adjusted pin box all the way up. When did that it gave me 6" bed rail clearence. I could not make any kind of down hill sharp turns at all. Articulate moves without worry of hitting bed rails on truck. If I lower my curt slider hitch down I seem to end same way,to close to bed rails. I can not figure how people can have that type of clearance of 5-6". I have a 2012 347th toy hauler and a 2017 Chevy 2500 Duramax 4 wheel drive. I put sub frame over axle as the rear 6 K axle was bent from riding nose high. I replaced with 7 K axles . Still 5" out of level. I also wander if a different pin box would help? Good luck. Let me know if you figure it out . Ron
