Gutter Drip Extension
Good afternoon everyone,
My husband and I are new owners of a 2005 Montana 3400 RL. We are closing up for the winter and want to cover our 5th wheel with a tarp. For those that cover yours for the winter, how do you keep from breaking off the gutter drip extensions or what ever they are called? Lol…
We are finding this sight to be very informative. Thanks to everyone.

I have read where people us pool noodles cut to fit around the gutter extensions, but sometimes they don't stay on very well. The pool noodles are also used to cover up sharp points such as an antenna. Tennis balls with an X cut + tape was a guy's solution from a similar thread on IRV2 forum...
What I use on top of my Winegard Wingman antenna is a carpet remnant to cover the sharp points. Then for my gutter extensions and entry step frame(both sides), I use tennis balls with an X cut into them and to hold into place, I use metal tape from Lowes that's much better with temperature changes. Once the cover is installed, for my tears to repair I use my Eternabond tape which I have used previously on my roof seams.

Those extensions will probably not break. They are a plastic / vinyl material and have a lot of flexibility, even in extremely cold weather. BUT!!!!! those extensions WILL put holes in the cover! Once the holes are there, there's no more rubbing against them.
You have a couple choices. Cover the extensions to protect the cover. As mentioned above, pool noodles. Or place a small plastic bowl over each one and tape it on.
Or, just let it rub and make a hole. Once the hole is there, it will line up perfect next year.
After 2 trailers and 3 covers, I gave up on the covers. For us, it's not worth it. We use the camper too much in the winter months. Putting it on and taking it off when everything is frozen is a horrid experience. It's easier to leave it off.
