Hello,
I have a legacy with Kodiak disc brakes .
I am trying to find a manual or lube schedule for the rotors.
do these have repackable bearings like drum brakes???

We just had disc brakes installed and I asked the installer this specific question. He confirmed annual bearing repacking as stated above.

I can't imagine doing it once a year unless you put on 50K/year.

Cost me $200/year, cheap insurance to get bearings repacked. Sitting is worse than constant use. I've had some browning of bearings which MorRyde said is moisture getting in.

In 35 years of towing 5 different trailers, I've had only one wheel bearing failure and it happened days after have a bearing service done.

How often do you repack the bearings on your truck or car? Had a 2016 3911fb and I put one pump with a grease gun in the grease zirt a few time a year. After 50k miles the bearings still looked like new. Tech said I didn't need new ones.

If we're talking about disk breaks, I wouldn't do anything but inspect the pads and inner seal just like an auto. Electric brakes are different. I pull annually to inspect the brake linings, magnets, wires etc. Highly recommended.

I do the same with disk brakes on this new Montana. Do you pull apart the brakes on your truck and check them once a year?

Your truck does not have serviceable wheel bearings - they are made to drive until failure and are very reliable. Tapered serviceable bearings in autos and trucks were generally phased out in favor of non serviceable sealed bearings in the early 1990s.

The wheel bearings on your rig still need to be serviced regularly. Once a year on a disk brake equipped rig is overkill in my humble opinion unless you all pulling it over 15K miles a year. I would be comfortable doing the service every 2-3 years for lower mileage although the manufacturer recommend yearly. "Back in the day" when my cars and trucks had serviceable bearings I typically ran them 25-30K miles before repacking them.

For drum brake rigs once a year is critical to inspect the brakes - once you have gone that far you might as well pack the bearings also.

The back side of the caliper has raised numbers such as “Kodiak 250” which tells you what size you have when it comes time to order new pads. The pads reference to common GM cars as one option.

Re brake pad inspection, you can see the pad material and the backing plate by looking at the caliper at an angle though the spokes in the wheel. I think we’re 15k-18K miles (mostly highway and freeway) and they look good.

Thoughts differ on time, but I waited until 12K miles which was about 2 years before a DIY repack. Some browning of the grease in the bearing but still bright red everywhere else. Bearings looked fine. YMMV and can’t go wrong sticking to the recommended schedule.

Truck have bearings on the rear axle that are serviceable.
