Tips on fan-Tastic fans

I had 2 fantastic fans installed in my rig, and both have rain sensors along with Maxx air covers. When they open, they will hit the cover, but they automatically stop. I have checked as I was worried about hurting the motor, but they do turn off and the fan keeps running. Sorry, don't know which cover I have.

I think Eric's question is whether the vent cover will not allow the fantastic vent cover to open all nd th emotor will burn out trying to open it further. Ours is a manual FF but the cover opens fully under the fanmate. 2002dura is your MaxxAir one of the standard vent cover types or is it the one made specifically for the fantastic fans? It looks like the two in my post above and in Chester's post. This could be important to know for anyone considering a vent cover for a fantastic fan. Thanks.

ed. later determined ours does not open fully under the fanmate. It opens the same as a regular vent under a regular maxxair cover.

Without looking at my cover, I can't be sure. I do not want to give the wrong info, so I will check in the AM. I do know that my fan cover does not open all the way, but the motor stops running when the fan cover hits the MaxxAir cover. I think mine is the model 400, but let me make sure.

2002dura, just to help you identify the model, the 800 has a screen and louvers in the end. The 400 is open in the end. That's the topside end.

We installed a maxxair cover on ours and it has the rain sensor..we also like to leave the vent open most of the time

Got the Montana back from camping world.The tire are really nice.i also had then install 2 fan/mate model 800 covers over the fan-tastic fans.To me it looks like the lid opens all the way.I could be wrong but it goes up pretty far.They also repacked the wheel bearings.The tech said they were in good shape.And the brakes looked excelent.He also told me to run the tires at 75psi when loaded and 80 when unloaded.He said if I ran them at 80 psi loaded their would be a lot of balance back their.

Regarding the tire inflation recommendation, I would have thought it would be the opposite: more bounce unloaded with the higher pressure, and needing more pressure for the heavier load.

Harlyrider If you apply a little 303 on the gasket it will help prevent it lid from sticking to the gasket, and help preserve the rubber too.

We have the Maxx/Air 400 on our remote FantasticFan with rain sensor, it will raise up to hit the cover, but it shuts off the same way it would when the gasket would stick. I verified that it actually "stops" when it hits by disengaging the motor and it does not continue running.

I think the Fantastic Fan isn't really that intelligent about how far open or closed the unit is - it runs until it hits a certain amount of force then shuts off - open or closed.

Jharvey, that makes a lot of sense to me. Our current Montana's FF does not have the rain sensor but the one in our prior Montana did have it. I always wondered how it worked, what triggered it. I saw it come down when I could see just a few raindrops on the pavement so don't think it was moisture-triggered. Now I suspect the force of a raindrop hitting the lid may be what triggers the lid to close. Anybody know for sure? I guess a well-placed bird dropping could trigger it, or a twig dropping from a tree?

The above link is a pic of the Fan-tastic vent panel in my recently purchased used 2013 keystone montanna. Can someone explain what it is for and how to use it.
The only thing I have found to work is the rocker switch and it will turn the ceiling fan on. Although if the ceiling fan is on I cannot use the ceiling lights or electric plug-ins. When the ceiling fan is turned.off the ceiling lights and plugs work. Please share your thoughts.

On the fantastic vent fan hit the auto/manual/off button once. It will illuminate the auto led, just to the right of FAN-TASTIC-VENT. The lid on the roof will open, based on the temperature in your unit the fan will come on and run at that speed until the temp changes. If it is 90 degrees in your rig it will run at 100% speed. If it drops to 80 degrees in the rig it will drop to 70% speed. Hit the auto/manual/off button again and the fan goes into manual mode. You can use the up and down arrow to set it at the speed you want. Hit it again and the unit shuts off and the lid on the roof closes.
Two common problems are;
1. If not used often the lid will become stuck to the seal and not open. Go on the roof and pry the lid up with your fingers. If it is stuck, you will fell it break loose. Operate the control and once opened, clean and lubricate the seal. (Alcohol wipe and WD-40 or a dry lube.
2. Your fan has a rain sensor allowing the unit to shut off and close when precipitation is detected. Wipe that sensor, visible from the top with the same alcohol wipe.

As far as the ceiling fan, light, and plugs you'll have to start with a volt ohm meter. Someone has either wired the switch or the fan wrong or the associated wiring behind each.

If rain blows in vent cover the sensor will activate and close vent...speak from experience. 🙂
