fantastik fan
I'm hooked to a 30amp service while parked at home. I've been using the fantastik fan continuously for the last month or so thinking this would help keep the unit fairly cool and ventilated at the same time. Keystone says not to run the fan all the time. why?

Patandjohn,
Now that's a really good question. I haven't a clue as to why they would say that. I wonder what fantastik fan would have to say.

I'll tell you what...the first season or so when it got really hot out, the fumes were so bad they made our eyes water. We put that fan in and set it to come on whenever the temps started to go up.
That pretty much kept things aired out. Even if I voided a fan warranty I would not let the air sit stagnent inside in the heat.

According to Bob Beratta at Fantastic Fan you CAN run them continuously if you choose.

I leave mine set on auto from May - Sept, so far no problems. Well I guess there is the one problem, many here say their FF will open automatically but does not close automatically. Mine does?? I know it is not because of moisture or rain, havent had any of that in 3 months now. =)

Ozzie,
What fumes are you talking about? Are you talking about the fumes from the curing chemicals when the trailer is new? Isn't that the problem with all of thos FEMA trailers from Hurricane Katrina? If so then the fumes are formaldahyde and very toxic.

Not necessarily Tim. A lot of the fumes are from the glues used in the assembly process and have nothing to do with formadhyde. The odors for the most part are harmless and will dissipate in short order.

When we looked at our new baby, we could only visit her for 3 or 4 minutes at a time, the fumes were so bad.
It was over 100 those days.
Sad that out-gassing is so bad.

The one we visited at our dealer's the other day was heavy in fumes, also. It is very hot here. The one we visited the prior week was not. The one we're living in never had the fumes problem. I wonder why some have it and some don't. We'll live in the new one from day one and running the FF to exhaust the fumes is not very desirable since that would also exhaust out the AC'd air in very hot weather.

I know it takes awhile for the fumes to leave, I'd keep running the fan. You could have me come by and cook dinner I'm known for burning something from time to time.See-Ya

Hummm. we do not notice a fume problem. It has been in the high 90's and it does have that "new" smell but not unpleasant or eye watering. Of course when it is hooked up here at the house the door is open and the fans are running.

We have not noticed any fumes in our nes unit either. I have run the fan a few times to show it off to people, but with this hot weather, we run the A/C and we are not using the FF at all. The humidity is so high, and this A/C and dual pane windows doing such a good job, I really don't see a use for the fan? Maybe fall/spring?

My wife is allergic to those fumes you are talking about. We were lucky. The 3575 we bought had everything we wanted and had been on the lot for four months...no fumes. We have a filter we run 24/7 to make sure of that, yet, we we close it up for a while (after 3 years) and the come back, she says she can still smell it. Pretty powerful glue, whatever.

Dave..Make sure you have some vents cracked when running the A/C for proper air circulation or you will most likely freeze up the A/C.

Dave,
We found out that sometimes the gasket around the cover will stick. I think there was a thread about this last year. We had the gasket replaced and have had no problems with our FF since.

Must be a statement of my age, but I kind of like the smell. It really seemed to bother my wife but it only smelled "new" to me.

Mine was built last August , when we purchased it in November, one of the things we liked about it was absolutely no odor left from manufacturing. We went into a new 3400 awhile back and it had a slightly " new smell " but really not bad. I have been in some other brands that the glue fumes were so bad, they made me feel sick so I think Keystone is doing something right.

When we go in new units in southern Texas, on a nice 80 to 90 degree day, no matter the age (1 month or 6), we smell formaldahyde so strong that it burns our eyes and we cannot stay in the unit. Same here in the summer, hot day, cannot go in a new unit with windows, vents and doors closed. First summer of use on ours, had to leave a window open over the bed area, as the A/C got a lot of it, but could not get all of it.

Mac, this fumes smell I don't think you'd like. It is very strong and makes your eyes water in a matter of maybe thirty seconds, if that long. I've only noticed it in new closed up units on very hot days and only on a couple of those. I suspect we'll be fine since we'll have air circulating via the AC.
