Help with leak detection

A few weeks back, after driving thru some torrential rains, we discovered avwet spot in the carpeting of our bedroom. It was at the nose end, in the very center, right where the floor steps up from the bedroom to closet. The carpeting in the closet was dry, as was the carpeting to the right, left and rear of the spot in the center. Trying to figure out where the water came from. The roof seams are sealed, but the "mushroom" attic vents are deteriorated. Could the water be getting in there? My other thought is that while driving the wind forced it up & in the pin box?
