Had the same problem on ours. It's a design flaw in the outside vent and has nothing to do with the flap. It's tracking down the sloped sides and inside the very bottom of the vent. Cleaned the bottom inside lip well with alcohol and sealed it with a generous bead of silicone caulk. That fixed it.

Thanks for that picture. I just ordered one from Amazon and will look at that bottom piece and apply sealant if necessary. 👍👍

I didn't know they made them without the tabs.
Mine does have the twist tabs on the exterior side of the vent but there is no way to reach them without a ladder

I've opened them using the awning wand that comes with a manual awning.

Mine new one has the twist tabs, but I’ll need a ladder each and every time I will need to close them. Too high up. Any suggestions?

I don’t have an awning wand but I am going to create something that might work.

no wand, but maybe I can create something from pvc that would work.

I actually gave up trying to close them, haven't closed them in years and flapper is still there.

Mine is always open also. Occasionally, high winds will make it rattle when parked but nothing too irritating (or damaging).

I have had a Monty (2 actually) since 2006. I have never turned the tab to open the vent!!! We don't use the exhaust much. Actually, I had a new microwave installed last year and the installation instructions have 2 choices. One for blowing outside and one for recirculating back into the rig. So I figure some air will find its way back to the internal vent.

I had the same leak on my 2020 3121RL. I saw a gap just below where the flap closed. I took the vent out and there are two screws on the inside of the vent. I took them out which allowed the vent to come into 3 pieces. I used a little black RTV silicone to seal around the bottom of the inside piece. I then put it all back together and a fresh bead of clear silicone around the vent and no more leak.
