Hiring a mobile RV handyman on Craigslist?
If I may impose upon the mighty MOC braintrust once again...
I’m thinking of posting the following in the Jobs and RV sections of my local Craigslist. Think it’ll work?
“Help Wanted: Experienced RV Handyman to help prep Fifth Wheel
I am prepping my 2001 Montana Big Sky 33ft fifth wheel trailer to sell this summer and need 2 or 3 hours help from a more experienced RVer than I am. No major mechanical work required, as everything was working OK last summer. But the slide-outs may need to be adjusted and the rails and weather seals need to be lubed. I have the appropriate sprays already. I also would like a second pair of eyes to look over the generator, electrical, and propane systems with me. No special tools required from you, just your solid fifth wheel maintenance experience and good advice. I want to be sure my Montana is in top shape when I offer it for sale. It is in a clean covered storage facility near town.”

My 2 cents. You would be better off getting input on good local mobile techs. You could wind up getting some poorly qualified responses to your ad with no great way to check them out.

Good point. Would getting a referral from Camping World be worthwhile? Where do mobile RV techs list their services? Sorry if this is a dumb question but we’re new to this stuff.

Options:
1. Ask the question here for a specific area
2. Google up mobile RV repair in your area
3. Talk to other local RVers
4. Ask for local big shops for a reference to one
Ask for references from any tech you find.

Start a new thread asking for mobile tech recommendations in the Boise area.

I hate saying this because I don't know how your Camping World is up there but most will not give you references to mobile techs because it takes business away from them even though a lot of CW's don't do much in the way of good service anyway. If you check with Craigslist in your area you might find some mobile service techs there or even possibly in the yellow pages of your phone book. We have numerous ones here in the Omaha area but also have a great service department at the local Montana Dealer.

We’ve only been there once. They installed our Anderson hitch backwards and cracked. Though they did fix it after I wrote a letter to the manager, we haven’t had a reason nor the desire to go back.
