I wish I had kept the Trucks that didn't require the DEF system. But, I didn't, again thats my choice. I can say what I want to say, but, China owns us, today. Good Luck.

I get my DEF at the truck stop when I fill my truck. I let it get as low as I can and then fill it at the pump.

New style date code, I’m pretty sure the first two numbers are the year -1 and the next 3 numbers are days. Instead of the plant being the first it looks like they moved it to the middle. If this is correct then this jug was manufactured on 11/12/21.
|
I haven't bought a box yet ,with that code. The old code was usually GA to start , then the year plus 1, so anything with 22 was manufactured in 21. The next three numbers are the days "REMAINING" in the year . The rest of the numbers are the batch code . I got this explanation by calling ,and talking to someone at Peak .
I bought a jug of Peak Blue a couple days ago at Walmart ,not sure if this is the new trend, but there was "NO" date code to be found on the box. It had the Walmart sticker on it , and a date of 12/20/21 . I asked the guy at the auto section there about the sticker , he said that's when they receive it at their warehouse, the sticker goes on it . I had to assume it was not very old from the manufacturer , plus its the newer style box , where the top of the jug is visible , and you see the spout that comes with it. You can actually carry the box by the handle on the jug .
I also asked the guy at the counter about their DEF ,and he said we usually had a hard time keeping it on the shelve ,although they did have several boxes ,with that recent 12/20/21 sticker on it .

I prefer to always use OEM parts and liquids unless unavailable, Ford def ISO is 22241 and is compatible with the walmart blue DEF.

Its a little difficult to read the numbers on your pictures, the top box appears to be newer then the bottom box , I read 22172 on the top box ,and 22203 on the bottom box ,bottom box being the oldest , 203 days remaining in the year , so around 6*1/2 months old .

I was in our local Walmart looking for some 5W40 for my new wood chipper shreader. I bought the last 2 bottltes. I did notice that they had 12 jugs of shell rotella - but the pickens were slim on all accounts. There was no DEF of any sort on the shelves.

When I look at the ingredients, they both seem to be the same and meet all Federal requirements. This is my first experience with using DEF. I had a 2011 Ram 2500 that did not require it.

It's a chemical, they are all the same.

I think Peak ( aka Sinclair Oil ) is changing their code system. I was in Home Depot this afternoon and they had two full pallets by the contractors desk so I looked for the date code and the only numbers I could find was just an 8 digit number, very small numbers. The first 4 where 2022 what ever that means.

gas stations routinely run out of gas or diesel especially in tough times, ask anyone who was in south texas this past february, or during hurricane season and recall the 1970s anywhere in the USA when people fought over gasoline during the oil embargo. Why would DEF be any different? Supply chains fail, shortages happen.

DEF has a roughly one year shelf life, no need to panic buy it. Every box has a MFR date code just have to learn how to read them. Always buy the freshest on the shelf.

DEF
Thanks all for the information on the expire date, I'm new to using it also and didn't think or know that I should watch for that issue. Anyone know what the shelf life of this should be?

I was in our local Home Depot today and thought i would check out their stock of DEF...they had none! So we went to a secret location described by mhs4771 in post #21 above and they had plenty! Bought a jug of their store brand for $9.99. It pays to read the forum!

I'm with you JD, never bought a box. I get it at the pump when I need it. With a lot of newer rigs on the road I feel the DEF is fresh enough.

Shelf life is about manufacture date and storage temperature. Blue def can be up to two years in ideal conditions. It appears that cooler is better.

They have , I finally found it on a box I just bought from Walmart ,it's all but unreadable . I looked for the usual date code ,and it was not there . Was looking at it the other day, haven't used it yet, and noticed some printing, but it's over some other writing ,so I couldn't really tell what the date code was .
Yes the printing is very small, nothing like the old date code , plus the new box ,but I think they have had that for awhile ,where you can grab the handle of the jug to carry .
