Any info would be appreciated.

I have no idea what he is talking about. I have taken my rig to Canada 5 times in the last 13 months and I have no transponder.

I think it's only for one specific highway near Toronto - as far as I know. You can do a search for "transponder" above. One site to check is www.407etr.com. Hope this helps.

I think it was the 407. Detroit local TV news did a piece on this recently. Seems a guy did not have the transponder and they got him for over $200.00 for driving some short distance. Every time he went through a exit/entrance, it nailed him for $50.00 for NOT having the transponder.

GULP!

Well I know in Western Canada you don't need a transpounder. But I haven't been to Eastern Canada yet! Thanks for the posting. Happyrving....

If you weigh more then 5,000kg (10,000lbs) it is manditory to use a transponder on highway 407. It's a privately operated toll road. Not only will they bill you, they will pull you over, isuue a tickett and bill you as well. Face it...Toronto is not an RV friendly place. I for one avoid the whole area.

I am like Gruffy. I avoid Toronto if possible and I only live 165 miles from there. I don't go on 407 at all if I have to go through there. Just stay on the 401 and it goes right through the city. Going on the 407 actually takes you north of Toronto and then east and west. It is supposed to be quicker but really isn't if you just stay away from the start and stop work hours going through the city. The 407 is the only toll road in the area.
Hope that helps.
