Winterizing Ice Maker
We need to make a decision on having dealer hook up ice maker or not on new 3611. I have searched for a how to winterize but haven't found specific instructions. Hopefully, the dealer can explain but you know how that is. Some say you must energize the solenoid. Is that cycling the ice maker without water being hooked up until there is no water in the trays? That doesn't sound right. Thanks,

I should have added that you need the pink stuff running thru it but seems you have to cycle it while running the pump and a jug of pink still hooked up. Is it easy to cycle it by turning off and on? I want to make sure we have the correct instructions and we ask the correct questions at the PDI! So many say they don't hook it up so that has me concerned.

You have to energize the solenoid allowing pink stuff to flow into the ice maker with bar on off in down position.with flat blade screw driver turn the plastic gear cycling the ice maker allowing water out and pink stuff to flow into the tray yes when you start back making ice again you are going to Pink Ice.some use compressed air to blow out the Ice maker

Last winter I drained the ice maker with the drain hose specific for the ice maker. I pumped pink stuff thru the unit. All was OK. Did get pink ice for a few cycles. I didnt cycle the ice maker. I will try the process above this coming winter.

Was poking around and saw this old post. You do not need to winterize your ice maker. There should be a valve under the sink that sends water to the ice maker. Close that valve. Under the slide with the fridge there is a water line that goes to the fridge. It is a two piece hose with a connector in it. Unscrew the connector and water will drain from both sections. That's it. If you wanted to take it further, turn your fridge and ice maker on. After a while you might get one cube.
No need for the pink stuff, no need to keep throwing out ice till the pink ice is gone.

I read info from Heartland RV they said blow out water line . Then turn off water to icemaker then add rv antifreeze
|

Dealer told me to do exactly as Chief Jerry stated. I hope this works as it is close to winterizing time!

Guarantee it will work. No need for pink stuff or pink ice. Don't forget, in spring, to join the two piece line together before reopening the valve under the sink. Easy Peasy.

Okay, turned the valve under the kitchen sink and then took the cap off of the blue line under the camper between the tires. Water drained out of the drain under the camper. Then disconnected the smaller blue line going to the ice maker under the stove. About one drop of water came out. Do you need to do something else? Worried all the water did not drain out of the small blue water line going up to the ice maker. The small blue line had a low point that should have had some water in it.

Didn't have ours connected either. with the fridge in a slideout, the line has to be routed outside the heated underbelly. Having it connected takes away from the 4 season rating on the trailer.

While reviewing this post noticed I didn't mention two things found out later. When I disconnected the small water line under the oven going up to the ice maker didn't see much water drain out. Several days later decided to turn ice maker on and let it cycle in case more water was in the small line. Left the ice maker on for quite a while and when looked again, there was about three table spoons of water that came out. Also, the Keystone RV manual that came with the camper says to "not" run antifreeze thru ice maker. I agree that the ice maker water line exposed below the slide is something to remember if you are camping in cold weather and have not drained the water lines to the ice maker.
I also think will try to wait until all antifreeze is flushed from lines before opening the valve to the ice maker! Just more stuff to remember and to add to winterization check list and spring list.
