2005 Montana 2955RL rear bumper install?

Our 2005 Montana 2955RL design is such that there really isn't any rear bumper. Is it possible to install a bumper and is it even feasible? Main thought is for mounting of spare tire. Having the spare under the trailer seems like a dirty job to remove it or check on the condition of it.

If you have one of those telescopic tire carriers its actually a breeze to get to the tire.

I installed a Hidden Hitch (aka Draw-Tite) 82201 adjustable hitch on my 2005 2955. It bolts on fairly easily. You will need an extender to get the receiver out from under the rear cap. It seems to be available from multiple suppliers.

So I take it that a rear bumper isn't very feasible? I don't have a "telescopic tire carriers" so it looks to me that removing the spare tire is crawling underneath to get it out.

Find a good trailer shop, they can likely weld a good heavy duty bumper on for you.

I'm more than likely going to jinx myself here, but in 27 years of pulling a fiver, I've never had to drop the spare except for once. So ...... where it rests underneath is of little concern. Like said, a welding shop can fab one up for you.

My 2006 is very similar to you unit. Like Carl n Susan I installed a similar hitch and with the extension use it for a bike rack. Could also use it for a spare, I guess. But like dieselguy I have only had to access the spare once. You are right it is a bit messy and inconvenient. I keep a smaller blue tarp in the rig just for this purpose. Then of course have to do it again to put the spare back up under the unit. Also, under it multiple times to check tire pressure but that is in the comfort of my driveway. However, all in all it is the beast alternative for me.

I have the same unit, have been thinking about doing the same thing but for carrying E-bikes. I like the hidden hitch idea.

I have an appointment to have the wheel bearings packed and the brakes checked, will look into having a hitch installed. We also will be carrying our bikes on a rack attached to the hitch. I like the blue tarp idea too.
