New owners

Our name is Larry and Anne. We just bought a 2018 Montana 3120, Love it so far haven't used it yet but planning on leaving on Wed and will be out camping until October. Both of us are retired I retired from a Copper mine and Anne retired from the school system.
Only thing I have seen so far is trying to hook up my Satellite system for my Tailgater. Will work on that later I think.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on getting your new Montana! We had Dish Satellite for a few years and used the Tailgater cube antenna. Before we went on the road, I practiced setting everything up and taking everything down several times at home. After I figured it out the first time at home, setting up was pretty easy. Then we started hitting different campgrounds and that's when the real fun started. Everything I thought I knew didn't exist any more. Some campgrounds, I never could get it to work. In time, we switched back just over-the-air television and when streaming video became the norm, we started using that. We use our phones as Hot Spots. We have AT&T and Visible. Between the two of them, it's still cheaper than what we ended up, at the end, paying for Dish TV. (something to consider in your future).

Again, Happy Camping and Welcome!

Larry J - welcome to the forum and just a heads-up on the Tailgater. I could never get my Dish Tailgater to work by hooking it into the "satellite" port in the convenience center. It seems that the OEM splitters between the convenience center and the TVs are not conductive enough to let the coax-powered Tailgater signal get through. I started running the coax directly from the Tailgater - thru a nearby window to the back of my Joey black box. DW was not a fan of that method with a black wire dangling thru the window, so I ended up running 6' section of coax behind the TV - down and out thru the slide-out loom with a 6" exposed coax pigtail sticking down below the slide bottom. I hook the Tailgater up there and it works great. Some folks here have drilled a coax port thru the side of the slide for hooking up the Tailgater. Some folks have replaced the splitters with better quality splitters.

What Mikendebbie said (above) is absolutely true. I forgot about this. We always ran the coax through a window. I could never get things to work when it was connected to the RV satellite jack.

for right now I ran it between the slide and the wall of the trailer. However thinking about installing a pair of coax connectors on the side wall of the slide. I not only have to dish TV I also use a Wilson we Boost for our cell phones.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. I agree with part but not all that is said about the tailgater (and other portable satellites). They lack the voltage to work through connections. Mine wouldn’t even work with just a connector to a new coax. I have only been able to get it to work connected direct. Everyone seems to blame Keystone, when the real issue appears to me to be the Winegard equipment. Just my humble opinion. We have our G3 mounted on the roof and ran the cable inside the rear cap direct to the Dish receiver.

Welcome.
IF, you live on the east coast you may want to take the Dish Tailgater back and get a
Winegard Pathway X2 Satellite dish.
It can receive both eastern and Western Dish Satellite arcs.
We have the Dish Tailgater king Pro. It can only pick up the western arc satellites. We are currently touring Prince Edward Island, Canada. The western arc satellites are in the tree line. Sometimes if we're lucky we can get two channels. H&I and Start TV.
You can see the eastern arc satellites high in the sky using the Wingard App.

We also have WeBoost. I used Flagpole buddy to mount them on the ladder.

Tailgater

Have used the tailgater for several years on another trailer. Have always had to run it direct to the Receiver. have had great results . However have always been able to run it direct with the Montana so far have not found a route to get the coax back where I need it. Nothing wrong with Montana or the Tailgater.
maybe the only way is through the side of the slide. However I will continue to work on it and figure it out.
Than ks to everyone for the warm welcome I have received. Anyone coming to Az and want to camp just give us a shout.
thanks again to all

Just remember........... any time you have a power outage inside your rig, first place to go is the bathroom GFI. If you only knew how many times we bumped it and then wondered by the kitchen plugs weren't working.
