Slideout Toppers Collecting Water

Is there any way to cure that, on the long slideouts after a rainstorm there has to be some where between 5 and 10 gallons of water up there.

Thanks

The solution could be as simple as getting a couple of beach balls, partially inflated and sticking them under the topper. Just don't forget to take them out before retraction. Swim noodles would work if they are big enough.

If they are correctly installed with the proper tension, water should not accumulate on them

TRUE

And if you look at other makes ( Grand Design etc.) they mount the wall rail higher so there is a better slope for drainage.

Although slide toppers serve their purpose, I've never seen one that didn't hold a bit to a bucketful of water no matter how they were tensioned after a good rain. A soccer ball with a tether rope attached for removal, or simply banding bungee cord rope around the slide works for many. The PVC examples above look doable as well. If you adjust the slide topper to where you can nearly play a tune on it ... it can cock the slide coming in or out. That's why there are tensioning instructions.

Daryles has a good observation, but some slides are too close to the roof to make that happen.

Well here is my solution, I put 6 of those red Folgers coffee cans and it worked great. I pushed them into place with my telescopic pole that I wash they RV with, and after the first rain I had to ajust a few of them a little but it seems to be all ok now ever after heavy rain and high winds.

Why worry about it??? There is a simple solution -- after a rain simple retract the side a foot or so (the water will run off) and then move it back out.

Well I am not going to worry about it anymore since the problem is fixed,
I could not do your solution even if I wanted to since my wife has every square inch of the top molding cover with nicnacs. "don't get me started" they would all come tumbling down like humpty dumpty.

PS: I am going to remove 3 cans and stick with 3, that is all I need since I have found the problem spots.

We have had our toppers on for 4 years, many storms have dumped gallons of rain on them, they have never puddled any water. The tension is extremely important.

I use pool water tubes for winterizing an in the ground pool. I fill them with air and slide them under the slide topper. No flipping or noise and no water buildup a they cost $10 for two! Works perfect.

I use three pool noodles, taped together in a triangle, with a long rope tied through it for an easy removal. It’s a decent remedy but still requires a ladder to install between the slide and the topper.
