Campground advice out west
We are planning a trip out lower west around 9/7/15 and would like some opinions on campgrounds that you could recommend. Looking around Oklahoma City, OK, Albuquerque, Durango, Colorado Springs, Denver, Moab, Utah, Las Vegas to name a few. Would appreciate any advice.

Sante fe skies in santa fe, meteor crater rv park in arizone, cheyenne mountain state park or garden of the gods. Monument valley only choice is gouldings. Stayed in a nice family run koa in elkton oklahoma that was friendly, clean, served breakfast and was very cost effective. Stayed at tom sawyer for one night in west memphis and while campground was alright, the view of the Mississippi and barges was something else. This was October 2014

I agree on Meteor Crater, nice park and great hole in the ground. Enchanted trails in Albuquerque is a favorite stop or ours.

For Las Vegas, there is the Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, or if you don't desire to be real close to the Strip and want to save a few dollars, there is also the Clark County Shooting Complex. For Albuquerque, we have stayed at American RV Park a couple of times.

Part of our trip May 2015. Bham to San Antonio-forget it. San Antonio to Roswell terrible road 285 with giant potholes that could break an axle, stayed 1 nite at Dexter-Midwaay Park just south of Roswell, P.A. park good for quick one nite..Roswell to Albuquerque, stayed at Enchanted Travel RV and trading post, nice folks but very dusty cg (very near CW). Alb.to Cortez, co. stayed at Mesa Verde RV Park ,nice park and people and across the road from MVNP a highlight of our trip, stayed 3 nites instead of one. Close to Durango for a day trip for the train ride and sightseeing. Take.NP bus ride thru MVNP and try to get on David Nighteagles tour.. Easy trip to Moab stay atPortal Rv park very convenient to everything (at least 3 days) best park on this trip.. Moab to Col. Springs via Denver stay at Garden of the Gods cg Manitou Springs and see GotG State Prk and Pikes Peak. We also like Rocky Mtn N.P. @ Estes Park. At the time of your trip you may see lots of elk in rut, ask at Park Hdqtrsfor location. If you are seniors be sure to get a $10.00 lifetime NP pass.Have fun.

If Durango is a stop, you have UNITED and ALPEN ROSE on 550 just north of town. East of Durango is Bayfield and Vallecito on 160. Vallecito is where we summer. Mesa Verde is great to visit but staying there while visiting Durango is out of your way. Your exit from Durango will be on 160 to Colorado Springs, so the east campgrounds would best serve you.

At Moab, we stayed at Moab Valley RV Park. It was gated. At Durango, we stayed at Durango Riverside RV Park which is north of town - about 10 minutes drive. Our site (#17 I think) backed up to the Animas River. It was nice to sit outside by the river - very peaceful. Oasis RV Park on the west side of Amarillo was a great over nighter place. All sites were level concrete. Close to the interstate but wasn't too noisy. No trees but very easy in/out. We would certainly stay at all these places again.

Ole Town Cotton Gin RV park in Goodlet, TX ( north of Amarillo) is very nice. Just about any state park in Colorado is a great place to stay. Blue Spruce RV resort in Vallecito north of Bayfield, Colorado is great, too, but off the beaten path. (One reason we like it so well).Sam's Town in Las Vegas is off the strip, nice place, amd quiet, but they run a shuttle to the strip if that's what you want, too. Great restaurant there, but it's been a few years since we have been to Vegas.

Carole,
Check out this site: It is listed by state/town. We have found that you can judge by the complaints and compliments on whether the campground will meet our needs.
