Bar Harbor to New Haven Conn.
Contemplating 2 week trip Bar Harbor to New Haven.Would appreciate "must see" areas and routing suggestions. Want to by-pass NYC headg south from New Haven. How about I-84 over to I-81?

I travel to Md-Va. to visit relatives and although it's a bit farther that way, I do I-84 to I-81 down through Pennsylvania when I don't want to deal with the I-95 corridor. It's a good alternative, especially if you're not in a hurry. Enjoy Bar Harbor, one of my favorite destinations.

you could spend a full two weeks in Acadia and Bar harbor. so much hiking! 84 to 81 is the way I always go if I am heading south. I never use 95 or any other route that brings me even close to NY city. you can always cut back over to the coast later.

We live closer to Philly and we took I-84 to I-87 to I-287 to I-78 then across NJ to PA. That avoids NYC traffic as well. Depending upon when you hit 287 and 78 the volume can be high.
I like the I-84 to I-81 option. Definitely prefer I-81 vs. I-95 from PA to the south. NYC, Philly, Baltimore, DC, Richmond on I-95....OUCH!!

Another vote for 84 to 81. We avoid NYC and 95.

We are headed to Smugglers Den Campground in 2 weeks. Will be there for a week. Looking forward to Acadia once again!
