Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

We are going to plan this as an individual trip. I have contacted the railroad and, for our numbers, there is no group price break. If someone wants to step up and organize the trip (carpool, etc) that would be fine. You can use this thread to do so. Dan is still working on the schedule so not sure what day would be best.
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad has been providing service between Durango and Silverton since 1882. It originally hauled freight to the gold and silver mines in the San Juan mountains. Today, it carries passengers through this beautiful area using historic steam locomotives. The 45-mile trip takes three and a half hours, each way, with a two-hour layover in Silverton; a nine-hour trip. There is also a diesel train that is a little faster. The drive from Durango to Silverton is about one hour. There is an option to ride the train one-way and a bus back (bus fare is $25). Or, couples could get together and one couple drive up while the other couple rides the train, then change places in Silverton; avoiding the bus. Either option is recommended; many people find that riding the train one-way is enough.
