Unhappy 2004 mountaineer furnace will not come on

2004 mountaineer furnace will not come on, but I can jump start the fan. Do I need a need thermostat? If so, I cannot find the domestic thermostat number on any sites. The one I have is for both heating and cooling. What do I do?

Do you have access to the furnace from the exterior? If there is a panel then you can remove it to see the various components.

Yes, it could be the thermostat but it could also be other things. On the older furnaces I've had success just removing and reseating the different electrical connectors on the furnace main board. Give them a bit of a jiggle as you reseat them to make sure you've got good contact. Sometimes they lose enough contact to prevent it from working.

Perhaps you could remove the exterior cover (if you have one) and post pics of the insides as well as a pic of your thermostat. Than might help in diagnosing.
