Vinyl cover for door
Many have added a Plexiglas cover for the front door of their Montana. I hate to copy everyone but I decided to try the vinyl cover with Velcro. The first try I bought the heaviest vinyl I could find and it did not work well at all. When I went back to find a lighter weight I found some that has butterflies all over it. I love butterflies. Thought I'd show you a picture... It is attached with very thin strips of Velcro that I cut down so as not to interfere with the closing of the door.
The sun was so bright that I only got a picture of the bottom half but you will get the idea.. I attached it to the inside so I wouldn't need a ladder to take it off and on and also to keep it out of the weather.

We had panels made this winter in Shipshewanna, IN. We had our porch enclosed by Raber Patio so we thought we'd have them do some for our screen door. Turned out great, it is bronze in color. We can see out but nobody can see in. It's held on by something like a thumb screw. We left it on all spring in Florida, even when it rained. We had many compliments on how it looked. I would post pictures but as of 2 days ago we traded in our beloved Montana for a Motorhome so we are now SOB's. Looking forward to our new adventures. Stacy

Yes they did Carol but not what I would put on the door. There were some plaids and I did see a cute one with lady bugs but the roll was almost empty. Not enough for the whole door. I thought about that one for the bottom and then clear for the top but went with the butterfies instead.

Helen, That does look good. I saw you working on this project at the Spring Rally--I will follow your lead--lighter weight vinly and velcro! Thanks for the photos.

Looks very nice Helen but I am afraid our big dogs would tear or knock out the vinyl cover. I am looking at doing it with plexiglas being our screen is gone. I have been searching in old posts to see how others have installed the plexiglas but with no luck. Maybe someone who has installed the plexiglas will read this and tell me how they installed it.

5ER,
Some have cut their plexiglass to fit inside the frame against the screen and hold it in with clips, I cut ours slightly larger than the opening and attach it with velcro on the inside of the door. Helens is a nice lightweight alternative and attractive too

Helen used a modified version of what we do. We purchased the vinyl at the fabric department at Wal-Mart but instead of attaching it with Velcro, I remove the screen spline and place the vinyl over the screen on the outside and then re-insert the screen spline and then trim the excess vinyl with a razor blade or utility knife. If the vinyl gets soiled, torn or scratched it is an easy replacement. If you use this procedure, it works better if you remove the door and lay it flat on a table or something similar. I would think any fabric store would likewise have the vinyl. I did notice that the last time I was in Wal-Mart, they even had a smoke colored vinyl, which is what we hope to use next.

What I like about the velcro is the ease of removal when we want the fresh air. I cut the velcro in half lengthwise so the strips are narrow and you don't even notice when we don't have the vinyl on. I used the white velcro.. You can find the vinyl at fabric stores and the light weight works great. It doesn't need to be thick like a table cloth, mine is the 8 gauge.
