We will not take the vaccine. My son who is a pharmacist told us normally it takes a vaccine 5 yrs to go through the process of trial studies, short and long term effects are part of the process. There is no where near the time to study the long term effects. It’s an individual’s decision part of that is they have to weigh their health risks if they get come down with Covid, and the health risk of taking the vaccine.

God help us and our country. There’s VERY little discussion on what we can to limit the chances other than mask/sanitizer ... or how to recover faster if you do ... sleeping position, supplements etc

I just want a real rally, AGAIN

This vaccine has been in the works for years. I would not be afraid taking it. If the Surgeon General, other high ranking staff, our military, and first responders are taking it, I'd say it's presumably safe. Friends of mine, who are first responders, have taken the first injection with no ill effects Would you rather live, or possibly die, or spend the rest of your life in a plastic bubble inside your home, because you're afraid of catching Covid-19. Just had an otherwise healthy cousin die from Covid.

Five years or so applies to new drugs not fast tracked. This vac didn't have to wait in line for bureaucracy. New drugs are not generally held up for long term studies. They get approved on short term results then monitored on the fly for long term effects.

For us, we are getting the shots as soon as available. I'm tired of spending the tail end of my life cycle poking at keyboards, making small pieces of wood out of big, shampooing carpets, painting walls and reading books (no, I don't do TV). If you aren't participating for some reason, hunker down. many of the 350,000+ and counting folks didn't believe the disease was potentially terminating their lives before their time either.

We have had 350,000 people die from this disease and under 10 had a reaction to it and no one die. That’s odds I like when I’m gambling. Oh don’t ever gamble with me. I’ll only gamble when the odds are heavily in my favor.

With doctors and other medical care professionals and first responders taking it, I am fine with taking it. They know far more than most people about the safety and would not take something they did not feel worth the risks.

I don’t personally know any one who died of covid but do know a number who have had it. And several of those had long hospital stays and significant struggles and some still have lingering health affects. A close friend’s 50 yr old nephew is currently in ICU with it. I will take it when it becomes more available. They are still trying to get all the medical community vaccinated here.

Coincidentally, our county public health doctor just had a news conference. COVID 19 is a derivative of SARS and as such the vaccine has been in the works for ten or more years. The researchers developed the COVID vaccine using the protocols already in place. To me, this means that your best friend's uncle's second cousin has no clue what he is talking about when he says that it will take 5 or more years to develop a viable product for this disease. The basis and vaccine was already there to develop specific vaccine for this offshoot of SARS.

With that said, if you are an anti vaxxer, so be it. Just be aware that most aren't and would appreciate it if you kept your distance at least until this crisis is over. NY State has a major problem. Without going into a political discussion, all you need to do is look at the FOX or Empire Today websites. A note - our area is at 10% positivity rate now - and not getting better any time soon. We are isolating for obvious reasons as are both in the over 70 age range with potential vaccinations end of Jan/early Feb now planned

There seems to be very few that die from covid alone. The majority that pass have other issues that in combination, becomes fatal. There is a big difference between those that die from covid and those that die with covid. It may be safer for those with other conditions to vaccinate opposed to risking catching that which would push them over the edge.

While other health issues are certainly a major contributing factor, I don't know that "very few" is accurate. Early on there was often news statements like "6 people died of covid yesterday, 2 of which had no underlying conditions". The total numbers have grown so much the statements no longer break it out like that.

In the end, it doesn't matter if a diabetic died from diabetes due to complications of covid, or if a diabetic died from covid due to complications of diabetes. If not for the covid, that person would likely still be alive and being treated for diabetes.

Still, those having other health issues definitely should be seriously considering the vaccinations. But otherwise healthy people should also.

COVID sidelined me last fall - 2 weeks in bed and another 2-3 recovering. I would have exchanged that experience for a vaccine in a heartbeat.

It all depends on what the odds are for a complication from the vaccine. My wife (a long time ago) had parents friends get guillane barre syndrome from some sort of flu shot around 1960+-4 years. So she is somewhat worried about taking this without a longer term study.
Kind of depends on if the problems from vaccine are 1 in 10,000 or 1 in 10,000,000. We don't know right now. After many have been vaccinated , we will go ahead and do it.
And we aren't anti-vaxxers since we get a flu shot every year.

My wife got the first shot of the Moderna version yesterday morning.
No immediate side effects at all other than a very sore arm last night and today. Its a big needle!

Like many of you, we had reservations and still worry about the long term effects of the vaccines. As of this morning, 5.2 million in the US have received at least the first shot. Serious side effects have been extremely rare so far. We hope and pray it remains so.

I'll get vaccinated when my turn comes around but I'm in no hurry.

This is like politics and religion you can’t argue about it. If someone don’t won’t to take the shot, fine with me. It just moves me one more person closer to the front of the line.

Got ours today. Modera we’ll see if there are any side effects. I got the flu vaccine this fall and on the way south the flu bug hit. Down a week and lost over 25 pounds. If this shot gets us out without worrying if my wife is going to get ill, it will be worth it.

There has been a lot of news on covid vaccine allergic reactions lately. But those numbers are small, something like 1 in 100,000. And most of those have been people who have had previous allergic reactions for other reasons. And they occur within 15-30 minutes after the shot. If you have previously had allergic reactions you should definitely talk to your doctor first. And make the shot giver aware so you can be monitored for a while after the shot.

I guess it's pretty simple to me; live the rest of my life with a mask on my face isolated somewhere and afraid of everyone around me; stay in my "compound" and never leave having necessary goods delivered to me and left on the front porch OR get the vaccine and move on to a normal life. Hey, I'm just a regular guy and the 1st two options have not, do not and will not appeal to me. Just sayin. It's up to each of us and as one previous poster said; if you choose not to take the vaccine that just moves me and mine one step closer....I'm all in with that.
