Adding an inverter

I'm looking to add an inverter to my 2022 3121. I do have the factory inverter prep option.
I guess my key question, will I need to add a separate transfer switch, or is there already a built in one with the factory prep?

Are you talking about an INVERTER or a GENERATOR? Never heard of factory prep for an inverter.

You shouldn't need a transfer switch since the 12v circuits will still be running on 12v. The inverter would run in parallel and send power to whatever 110 AC circuits that you connect it to.

Parallel circuits makes sense.

It would be nice to have the 7 designated inverter outlets live when we’re without shore power.

Thanks.

If you get the Magnum Dimensions 2K inverter it has a built in TS. Mount the inverter. Connect the prep AC in and AC out, connect inverter to the batteries and install the remote switch. Easy peesy

I haven’t heard of an inverter prep package either. A 3121 has a residential fridge, and an inverter to run it. But, I’ve heard of a bunch of anomalies in these trailers. Anything is possible I guess. Generator prep maybe?

Interesting. Only inverter prep I’ve heard off was to add a second inverter just to power an air conditioner.

A 2022 3121 does not necessarily have a residential reefer. They dropped the 3120 that year and the 3121 can have either type reefer.

Ok, I thought that happened in 2023, thanks.

I have a second inverter prep for the AC. This unit had a Dometic fridge. No Inverter but a panel labeled inverter prep. I though it was odd also but there it was.

I have a 2022 3121RL and upgraded my inverter along with batteries. I have the original Magnum inverter I would sell. If interested PM me.

Thanks

Will your inverter provide 120 vac for the entire coach or just specific outlets.
If it is powering the entire coach you might need a power isolator or selector switch. You cannot have the inverter powering the coach and also be plugged into shore power unless the inverter is also a converter that can charge your batteries. If the inverter has a built in converter, then it will sense that shore power is applied and will not try to provide AC power to the coach, but will charge the batteries.
If the inverter does not have a built in converter, then you cannot have the inverter provide AC power at the same time shore power is applied. That's when you need a power selector switch.

The factory inverter prep is usually for 7 outlets not for the entire trailer. If you just want those 7 outlets wired for an A/C feed you would wire in an A/C inverter using the connections supplied for the Inverter Prep. Pop over to the Montana Solar Facebook page for more info. For 2022 Montana eliminated the 3120 model number. Which designated the fridge type as gas absorption. All are 3121 and gas electric, or residential fridges are options.

My unit has 200 watts solar with 7 designated outlets for the inverter. In addition, the entertainment center, the recliner, lights and the ceiling fans run on 12 volt.

Actually thinking about testing with the batteries disconnected and shore power connected. If the entertainment center, recliners and lights don’t work then they are separate wired circuits and thus I don’t need a transfer switch.
