2017 Montana 3820FK for sale

We are planning on selling our 2017 3820FK Montana 5th wheel after our next trip this year, and we were wondering if it would be better to find someone in this club that wants to get a good deal, or let the dealer gouge us when we trade it in to get a 2019 Montana? We have the full body paint Legacy edition, with every bell and whistle they offer. I had them do the exterior and interior protection coating, and I have waxed it 3 times already myself with NuFinish wax! Takes me two days every time I do it. :-) I will do it again before it becomes available to sell in the middle of November. Plus just for safety, I am going to replace and repack the wheel bearings. All of the bugs have been taken care of, so this unit is ready to take off on the road as soon as someone picks it up. Any thoughts on this?

If i were to buy another rv i think i would buy used. The most important thing i read from your post was 'All of the bugs have been taken care of'. You can buy a new truck and not look back but rv's are totally different. You could list it on Craig's List or local paper. If you trade it in just remember you only pay state sales tax on the difference between your trade-in and the new rv which in Texas would be around $3,000.00 or more in savings. Financing is the biggest problem on anything used on account interest is higher on used units but there just may be someone out there that wants just what you have. Good luck. Glad you are planning on staying in the family.

KOLCB, The 3820FK only came with the 18.8 RV refrigerator. There was no option to put in the Residential refer. Now that you bring that up, what are the pros and cons of each type? We have had no issues with the RV Refer, and we leave it on propane when we are towing, and electricity once we are hooked up at an RV park? I understand the residential runs off of your batteries and has to have a special inverter, so why is that good or bad?

Texan,

I agree about buying used, especially if you are buying a Motorhome, since those depreciate a ton, once you drive it off the lot. But in this case, there are no used Montanas available, since we want the 2019 3931FB which is a new design. I can fix all the bugs again, now that I know what to look for, and since i am retired, it will give me something to do. :-)

That is true in some states and not so true in others. In CA, where vipermanden resides, you pay slaes tax on the total price BEFORE the trade in adjustment. Even if you buy it somewhere else with different rules, when you go to register it in CA they will want more $$$$$.

Our dealer in WA only gets Montanas with rv refrigerator . They will special order a Montana with the residential refrigerator only if the customer wants one. They said that they have had too many problems with the residential models, i.e. refers fail, inverters fail.
However I am sure there are pros and cons and comes down to personal preference.

When we were looking for a new Montana a few years ago, most of them had the residential option. I’ve never had one, but I think I prefer the RV model. We have the 18 cubic foot model and it works well

Builders like to put a residential in everything as they are cheaper. I much prefer the 18 cu ft RV fridge! How does a residential cause delamination? Easy ~ my neighbor in Nashville had to have his repaired. Out the rear window was the only way out it would fit. Not quite properly sealed rear window and no one takes responsibility for the delam

We have residential refer. We have only been out for a 4 day week end and a 2 week trip. So far we would not go back to RV refer.

Is the only reason people want the Residential refer, because they don't have to mess with the propane? I have heard propane can be a hazard when left on while driving, but that is what we have done on every trip? Then I hear so many more people say they would only have a Residential refer? So I guess since using propane while driving is not as safe, I am going to try the residential refer on my next purchase?

We do not boondock. DW used to not like Refrigerators with drawers when looking for one for S&B. She likes the Samsung in our camper. That was a surprise. We usually take long drives to get to destination. RV fridge would blow out while going down the road. It would heat up inside. Given our limited experience with the Samsung, we are pleased with it. A lot depends on how you are going to use it and how you travel.

I've had both and I prefer the residential for several reasons. If you do a search you will find that the RV refers seem to have more issues than the residential. Not saying that most are just fine but I've read a lot about problems and the expense of repairs. Unless you are going off the grid for more than a day or so there is no "need" for the RV type. The residential cools down much faster than the RV (up to 4 hours for the RV), and stays cold during normal opening and closing of the doors. A good example is how ice cream freezes. I have found that it stays a little soft in the RV type even if you don't disturb it by opening the doors. The residential keeps it solid just like at home. With the inverter and good golf cart batteries you can overnight while traveling and not lose any cooling. Of course while underway the batteries are charged by the TV. Also, the RV type requires that you maintain the trailer in a reasonably level position. Not always possible when traveling and overnighting. Not putting down the RV type so no need to challenge me. Just my preference from a lot of experience with the RV units.

OK, I found out my local dealer is going to list my Montana for $76,000 and hopefully sell it for $68,000- $70,000 So if I sell it privately, I'm thinking I should ask for around $63,000 to give someone a great deal, and I would get more than they will give me to trade it in?

Not sure of your dealer but according to RVTRADER brand new 2018 are selling for 55-58k. I just spoke with a Camping World in North Carolina and they have one for 58k out the door price. And it has everything except the Legacy package.

Dcole, The Full Body paint job is a 10k add on. I forget the price of the Legacy add on, and the exterior and interior protection I think was a $2k add on. Plus the Onan 5500 and the Splendid washer/dryer adds another $4-5k. In any case, if you get a quote with everything I have on it, the dealer is probably going to charge you around 90k. Maybe a little less in some areas of the country, but that is what my dealer in Reno, NV charged me.

Good price

$63k sounds like a good price to me. It’s a great looking unit. Somebody will recognize a good deal on a loaded fifth wheel.

Cool 3820fk for sale?

Hello all, my first post ever, although fairly avid readers of the blog!!
We are not Montana owners yet...but hope to be soon! And the 3820fk is our definite preference after literally years of looking. I'm hoping to be retired and hitting the road in just a few more months, and I can't wait!
This post came up upon "googling" a request on 3820fk's for sale, so if possible, I was wondering if I could ask about the 5th wheel's kitchen?
My wife, being a very discerning cook, wants the 60/40 sink, and the 3 burner, raised cooktop. And since I enjoy her cooking so much, what she wants in her kitchen really matters to me! I'm hoping it has it, because the earthen slate full body paint is just what I wanted, and sounds like it is a very well cared for 5er!
(She picks the inside, me the outside!) So, if it does, I'm hoping we could have the chance to see it, when you're ready to sell, of course. We're here in the SF bay area.
Thanks!
Jim and Jan

As you can see you probably could sell it here and in most cases get a better deal from the dealer if they don't have to take a trade.
