Sewer help

I have a 2019 3791. I am wondering why I would have about a cup full of sewer come out of the pipe when I take the cap off to connect. All the valves are closed and the black tank was flushed really well.

I am wonder how the sewer could still be in the pipe and what I can do to stop it.

Is this a problem with the black tank valve.

This is just left over in the pipe after you dump. When you drive down the road it finds its way to the cap to SURPRISE you when you take the cap off.
Buy a Valterra twist on waste valve. This helps prevent surprises

Thanks for the info. I though it might be a valve problem. I figured since I had rinsed it out really well the pipe should have been clean.

I will try that valve.

What Daryles wrote ^^^^^^^ The best thing for avoiding SURPRISES and a backstop against a (gonna happen sometime) leaky valve.

twist on valve on the end is the ticket

I did exactly that when I had the same thing happen to me with our new Montana. I was new to the process and needless to say it was a real surprise for me! No problems since!

I also have a 2019 3791RD. One thing I do every now and then when dumping/flushing tanks is to run the nose up high and drain the black and shower gray tanks, then run the nose down low and drain the galley gray tank. The way they are installed and plumbed, the black and shower gray tanks empty to the rear and the galley gray empties to the front. This helps get everything out of the tanks.
The twist on Valterra valve mentioned above is a "must have" too.

I use a Valterra cap and carry a plastic pail to catch the waste. Sometimes it's grey water, sometimes it's black and sometimes it's a little of both and sometimes it's nothing. I then dump it down the sewer before I connect my dump hose.

I just a flow meter and clear dump fitting to fill the black tank and flush it several times when done with a trip. I keep filling and dumping until the water is clear. I typically put 35-40 gallons in each time via the power flush. This way there are no surprises when I open the cap later.

And it may save you a trip to the ER when you remove the cap without a Valterra and you jump back, hit your head on the slide, trip over the hose, fall on the pedestal, dislocate your shoulder and wake up with DW saying what the #$%^ did you do. Not that that ever happened to me, was a friend, really.

Rather than pumping 35-40 gallons into the black tank, why not use that Valterra, or a Flush King and back flush 35-40 gallons of gray water into the black tank, rinsing it out? Then as a final rinse, you can flush maybe.... a gallon ... of fresh water. I've been doing the back flush method absolutely every time I dump for over 20 years now, on 4 different campers.

I back flush at least, at a bare minimum, at least once. Sometimes 3 or more times, depending on how full the gray tank is. It saves water, it gives your gray water a second purpose, and it's very efficient at flushing out your black tank. In our environmentally conscious world we live in, it's a great way to re-purpose and save water.

I KNOW that wasn't funny, but could not help but roar laughing! I could just imagine that happening to me! And trust me, my DW would have said the same exact words.

Dutchman - thanks to you and MOC members, this is exactly the procedure we have adopted to use and been very happy with the results.

OP -as several others have stated, the Valtera twist on gate valve is most definitely a must have add on.

When I dump, I raise the front of the rig which seems to help get everything out of the black tank. I also put one of these adapters on, which used in parallel with the factory valve, I get zero drips when uncapping and hooking up my black tank drain hose.

I have a Valtera Cap (T1020 with 3/4" cap) and just leave the cap off as we are traveling. No surprises.

Not to worry! It’s all organic material right…PDF (poop drip fluid and poop exhaust filter) may be in our futures.
