Full Time

Wife & I will be doing the 'FULL TIME' thing here in about 10 months. We will be selling our home and will stay in California until next May. After that we'll be 'on the road again'. 2 things we're wondering about is MAIL SERVICE and Medical coverage. We're one of the many who want to leave California because of the rise in taxes so our initial concern is being registered in another state (ANY STATE). What's required to do that? Second big concern is medical coverage. We're ssc (SEXY SENIOR CITIZENS) on Medicare and presently we're attached to Kaiser Permanente. Outside of the 'Left Coast' the closest other state is Colorado. We're in not 'love' with KP.Org but there is a comfort level.

We're thinking about setting up a 'BASE' somewhere, than take extended trips.

Any suggestions?

Don & June

We use Escapee's for our mail service and AARP for our suplimental medical coverage. Escapee's have address for you in Texas, Florida and South Dakota so you can domicile in any of those states. We still domicile in Kansas for a number of reasons, you just need to check out insurance, taxes and tags when making a choice. We have bases in Kansas and an Escapee park in Lakewood, NM.

we established South Dakota residency easily thru alternative resources, now called Dakota Post. Check their website. They provide multiple services including mail forwarding. Medical has never been an issue, we use Medicare and Tricare for Life. We have a lake home in NC we use in the summer and a permanent site in Florida we use in the winter.

Don & June, we are doing the same thing except a few months ahead of you. This is our second time diving into the full time life style. We were pretty much guided through the process several years ago on this forum by some pretty knowledgeable members.

The last time we sold our home and started traveling full time we used our son's address. He would sort through our mail and forward us anything important. It made everything easy because our registrations, vehicle insurances, medical insurance, and income tax filing did not change.

This time we have been in a home in Florida and are residents here. Our plan right now is to secure a mail service which offers an address in Florida about 2 or 3 weeks prior to closing on the sale of our home. Haven't decided on which service yet, probably either Escapees or Good Sams.

Florida tax base is favorable, registration is very cheap, and we have wintered down here or visited here for years. Everything revolves around that "home address" when you are full time. Florida has very efficient absentee voting and many other things that IMHO make it a very favorable state to establish residency in while full timing.

I guess you just have to sift through all the issues of becoming "residents" of another state and see which one works best for your individual situation. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I've heard good things about Fla but also South Dakota and next door in Wyoming. We're already a Good Sams member so it would seem we have a 'tools' in place.
