Direct tv
Anyone had any problems taking the box from your house on the road and it not working because you’re not at home anymore I read somewhere the other day somebody was having problems and they told him that once they got so far away from our house it wouldn’t work anymore just wondering thinking of switching from dish to direct. Thanks Tim

I have an extra box just for the trailer. Home base for me is NJ I’ve only traveled the east coast with it and have had no issues other than loss of the local stations but all other ones worked fine.

you lose the locals when you are more than 250 miles from home.... otherwise not issues.

We've been coast to coast and only issue was lost of your locals and when you get far enough up into Alaska or Newfoundland you will lose everything because the dish will need to be pointed at the ground.
Been doing this for over 10 years.

I take mine home receiver with me, only thing you lose is local Chanel’s . So I call dish tell them I need to change the location of my receiver but you have to make sure to tell them your billing address is still same. Then in a few min I get locals for the area I’m in.
If you get dish RV you can change location on the web. Since mine is my home account I can’t do it on the web I have to call them.

As stated above, once you move out of the spot beam from DirecTV that delivers your locals you lose the NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS and Fox feeds. You still have all the other channels in your package (Discovery, Bravo, etc).
DirecTV is much nastier than Dish in terms of changing you locals to a new area. But it can be done. Not too frequently or they may catch on. No matter what, *DO NOT* mention you are in a RV. Just say you are at your summer cabin, winter home, etc (as appropriate) and here is the address. Pick a large city nearby and an address even if you have to invent one (1234 Main St). The spot beam from large cities covers a good sized geographical area so you can move around within it and still have locals. For instance the Phoenix spot beam locals cover Yuma, Quartzsite, Tucson and Sedona for sure.
Be sure they understand this is your service address and not your billing address. Do not let them change your billing address, particularly if you have made one up.
Be aware that any receivers left at home will also have the locals changed. And they will not see them as the spot beam carrying them is out of their reach. This means if there are folks at home, or you have a DVR there recording things, they won't get any of their locals.

Direct tv and never a problem you do lose locals when you move out of the spot beam but the OTA antenna will pick up the locals.

Have used Direct tv coast to coast and never an issue. Before we went HD, took two receivers out of the house and they travelled with us; used a tripod and no problem setting up. Local channels require a call to tech support. When we went HD, problem as the set up is more complicated. Directv set up the exact equipment configuration as we have in the house, no charge for our snowbird location. When we go to Florida, they shut down the house no charge (used to be $7 per month vacation) crank up Florida location for us. Opposite action when we head home. They also set up a permanent dish at our Florida site. When on the road, no sat tv because of the dish issue, but almost always have cable, and I am too cheap to put a sophisticated HD antenna system on the RV roof. Directv tech support has always been helpful, and as I said, they came out and set up for us at our park site. They will not touch Winguard or any other antenna system other than their own.
