I did a video on how to remove and repair slide topper awnings several years ago. Ours was sewed and the stitching and fabric had rotted out. We replaced one awning because of the sun damage but were able to salvage the other 4 by removing them, cutting off the sun damaged fabric and having them re-stitched. You have a couple of options:
1- Take the awning off and try to re-glue it
2 - take it to someone who does upholstery repair and see if they can double stitch it. Be sure to take the plastic cord with you so they sew the cord inside of the fold.
