Yeah I’ve decided that. I will go as much as $1500 but that’s my limit.

You are not going to buy a 50 amp generator for $1500. Not going to happen. Honda makes a 7000 watt for $5000 and Harbor Freight makes a 9500 watt for $2200. You can hook two units together if you want to haul them around. You can get a 30 to 50 amp adapter and run most of your camper off of one of the normal generators.

You would be better off getting either two predator 3500s or the Wen equivalent and a parallel kit to get to the 50amps. It’s a cheaper option, they are more portable and in all honesty you likely won’t need 50amp unless you are planning on running both ac units and the microwave. We can easily use a 30amp gen with one ac and be fine 80% of the time. If I need more we have an onboard Onan.

Most probably already know this but a 50amp generator (6000 watt) is only half the power of 50amp shore power.

For those of you who have installed the slide-out tray...how did you securely mount the tray and anchor it to the RV ? See my sketch below. The tray has to be mounted 9" above the storage compartment bottom (note the red 9" dimension) to clear the baggage door frame.
I have a front bath model RV. There is a 3" pvc drain pipe coming down from the bath that I have to figure out how to work around to get the genny tray to work in my compartment. But first I would like to figure out how the tray is anchored.

The sketch and pics below better illustrates the problem I have with the pvc pipe in the front compartment conflicting with a generator slide tray. I drew this up several months ago before I had the exact dimensions for the slide tray. I was just trying to see what would fit and what would not fit. I will look more closely at the Morryde slide tray #SP60-044 to see if I can make it work on paper before starting the install.
I still have to figure out how the do the 9" base needed to mount the slide tray at the proper elevation to clear the door frame.

I over the years have owned 5th wheels with the 5500 Onan on board, all worked great. I also had 2 Generator in a tool box, sat inside Truck bed, it was a 5500 Onan. We never ever boondock, always park in RV parks with full hook ups. There we decided the expensive, of on board Generators vs portable Generators just was not worth the expense. We went with 2 ea Honda 2000's, when hooked together took care of our energy needs. I still take one Honda 2000 when on the road just in case the RV electric goes down. Good Luck.
Happy trails.

Nice work there. That plumbing is likely a vent that could be easily rerouted for clearance. I had a similar idea but it dropped the genny straight down instead of sliding forward.

The RV has a factory transfer switch since it was gen prep ready. in addition however, I added an additional transfer switch on the generator line to switch from gen power to inverter power. Everything works like a charm.

Slide is model MORryde SP60-044 purchased off Amazon. I think I found a deal for 180.
The picture in the Amazon was not correct, it did not show the locking latch.

Mike, Bummer no Gene-prep, that would have solved your base problem.
Know anybody that could fab a couple square tube build-ups?
Should be beefy to handle the cantilevered weight when extended.

btw, I did have to remove the gen-prep firebox and enlarge the height, probable the hardest part of the job.
