2012 Pendant Light in Kitchen

The kitchen pendant light decided to shear the thumbscrew bolt that holds the pendant to the base. I have tried all the usual tricks to extract the broken bolt (EZ Out, heat, etc.) with no success. I am on the road and have decided to wait until I get get home, where I have more tools, to attack it further.

In the mean time I am trying to figure out where one can find another one, or even a decent replacement. This is a 2012 model and the antique brass fixtures are probably passe but if I can match it, I will.

There are stickers in the base plate but nothing that ids a manufacturer. I search Trekwood but nothing pops out. I plan to call them Monday when they open again. If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears.

Thanks, I saw those but they don't match the othe installed ones. I was trying to avoid replacing all of them.

I had to rebuild one of our pendants, stripped out the threaded tube from the bottom of that fitting. I was able to get it back together with a short nipple. You might need to just drill through the screw that broke and just use a screw and nut, maybe black finished so it doesn't show too bad. They are a poor design, especially with all the movement when rolling down the road.

Thanks Bob. I tried an EZ Out on the broken off bolt portion of the thumb screw but no luck. I was hoping with better tools at home I can extract the bolt piece and use a standard thumb screw (with some paint work). Otherwise, drilling straight through and using a regular bolt may be the answer.

An exact replacement would be an easy and quick fix *IF* I can find the OEM manufacturer. There is a guy on FB who has the same fixture which broke. He says he is going to try to fix it. I told him that I am willing to take it off his hands if that doesn't work out.

The other issue is I had to cut the 12V wires at the ceiling to remove the fixture. There is no room at the top of the fixture to use butt connectors to attach the wires again when reinstalling. That means I need to re-wire the fixture from the socket up through the top to give me enough slack to butt connect and hide them under the cap in the ceiling. How the lens and socket come off is not obvious. Yet another exploration adventure. That is why a total replacement is looking better and better.

Carl, can you just drill and tap a completely different hole and use it to hold things together with another thumbscrew sourced from say ace hardware? Also these Wago connectors don't take up much room. Just a thought. Menards carries them.

Drilling and tapping a "new" hole is a good thought. I will try that before drilling all the way through. Those Wago connectors are slick. But they won't fit into the swivel joint which is where the lamp wires end. Once I rewire the lamp, I will use those and hide them in the ceiling. In 20-20 hindsight I should have cut the wires further up into the ceiling. Oh well, it will all come together somehow.

Could you solder a couple of pigtails of wire onto the stubs of wire out of the light and then shrink tube to insulate? Then Wago it all back together pushing the extra into the ceiling.

Yet another great suggestion. Once again, using tools I have at home and much easier than trying to disassemble the lamp fixture.

Looks just like the pendants on my 3800re. Mine used the dreaded automotive wedge based bulbs and were a pain to replace. I changed the sockets to use bayonet base bulbs. Much better. To remove the glass from the fixture, remove the bulb, reach way up into the glass and there will be a nut to take off. Will require a mutant with long skinny fingers or a nut driver or anything you can find that will reach the nut. I did't use butt connectors, but male and female insulated spade connectors, so i could plug together and unplug when needed. John

Thanks John! I too hate those wedge base bulbs. And the tips on removing the glass is just what I needed. I thought that was the way it had to come apart but I hadn't tried it yet.
