Roof Edge - 2022 Models

We were doing some maintenance a few days ago and I discovered this small cut along the edge of the roof. Our previous rig was a 2014 - 3850FL with a rounded radius along the edge of the roof.

Since I haven't kept up with the evolution of RV roof construction since then, I was really surprised to find what appears to be square aluminum tubing or perhaps just a 90 degree piece of aluminum that may well be part of the frame running along the edge of the roof. It appears to have a smooth finish, but still has an "edge" that the TPO is stretched over.

Having that semi-sharp edge under the stretched TPO creates a real possibility for cuts like this one from barely rubbing even a very flexible section of new tree growth. A close look at the area to the right of the cut shows where the roof was rubbed but not cut. I elected not to patch that (yet) because it felt solid. We have zero recollection of getting anywhere close to a tree at any of the places we've camped since owning it, but there were some low hanging branches we passed under as we went into a couple of COE campgrounds.

It's just an interesting design that seems to be destined to small patches like this one from even a minor rub.

We ended up putting a FlexArmor roof on our 2014 because the entire front section of roof became a giant bubble as we drove down the road at about the 18 month mark of ownership. Hoping I don't have to do that, but I have to say that I've spent the last 6+ years not worrying about my roof when I had the FlexArmor!

Clark - first screen shot from the 2014 brochure shows aluminum arched trusses were used for the roof - so you did see an aluminum edge tube. The second screen shot is from a YouTube video “Keystone Montana factory tour part 2” from December 2021. It shows wood roof trusses with an aluminum edge angle.

Thanks. I had watched that factory tour video a few weeks ago but didn't connect the dots until you posted the screen shot. Seeing the pic in the context of my discovery helps. Guess we'll be even more careful in the future. I have this vision of a strip of eternabond running the length of the roof!!
