Winter purchase in MN

We had planned to buy a Montana and tow vehicle from individual in MN in April but our schedule has changed and we would like to start RV life ASAP. If we were to take possession now it would be hard to check all the systems, learn to tow and deal with maintanence. My question is would it then freeze up and damage things as we go down the road to warmer climate? Could we use it on the road in severe conditions? We have never used or towed a 5th wheel before.

It may help to let this forum know what town or city this unit is in. It is possible that someone with experience is on this forum near your purchase and can be of more readily assistance in checking it out.

Good luck and happy RV'ing

The weather has been cold in Minnesota this past week, anywhere from 10F to -25F and the temp often stays like that until the 2nd week of February. You didn't say just when or what part of the state you were planning to pick up the unit.( colder in the north!) If it can be put in a heated garage, that would be best. The very least would be to have the seller heat the unit for a day or 2 before you go to pick it up. We also bought ours in the winter and the front legs wouldn't go down until we heated the unit up. If you leave water in the unit, you will need to keep it heated until you reach warmer weather, or re-winterize the unit.

If you stick around the forum for a bit, you will see there are members living in all types of weather conditions and others will most likely add their comments. Montanas can be used in cold weather, but need to be heated if water is put in the tanks.

Good luck with your purchase, I'm sure you will enjoy it!
