Termination Dust is here!

Termination dust, as us locals call it, is here! Termination dust is the first snowfall on the mountains indicating the termination of summer. If you'd like to see it, scroll down in our signature and click on the "Live View of Seward, Alaska" link. There is a catch, it is a live view, so you'll have to do this during daylight hours. Also, today is the first day of no rain in 18 days. So look quick! The view is looking out over Resurrection Bay to the east at the mountains. Very pretty!

Well the Termination Dust came early this year. Should have arrived about 7:44am next Tuesday.

"At the autumnal equinox (Sept 22, 2008; 11:44:18 A.M. EDT), the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, from north to south; this marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere."

Happy Cold Weather, and may this winter have less problems than last winter.

Hi, Tammy and Bernie! Yep, it's there, all right--and what a gorgeous photo on that webcam, too. Beautiful!!! Isn't that termination dust a bit late for Alaska? I seem to remember that when we lived in Anchorage, it arrived in early September. But, maybe not--that was years ago, and my memory isn't what it used to be.

Let's hope that you and Bernie have a less eventful winter than you had last year under less than ideal conditions. I bet Bernie isn't quite ready to drop the bottom of your rig and play in the black water lines again in -40 temperatures.

Our rig is in the shop awaiting a new sink and countertop. Good thing we had to cancel our Labor Day plans to go camping, because we'd have had to do it in a tent.

We had a bit of termination "slush" last night, but nothing to get excited about. The rain turned into snowcone-like stuff and piled against the doors and windows for a while. This morning, it was gone.

Again, thanks for including the link to Resurrection Bay and the mountains. Breathtaking!

Hey Carolyn! I am praying for a less eventful winter too! We are in the process of skirting the rig and that will make a good difference from last winter with no skirt! Other than that, we are all ready and want winter here NOW!

You know, last winter we didn't get any snow until November in Anchorage. So I am very excited to see it already. It has been a cold and rainy summer so maybe that had something to do with the termination dust arriving so quickly. In fact, we have snow flurries predicted for tonight! It's so pretty and today was just a beautiful day to enjoy it!
