Operating temperatures

Quick question for RAM drivers:

I just upgraded tow vehicles from my current signature vehicle (2014 3500 SRW, CTD with 3.43 rears and 68RFE gearbox) to a new 2016 RAM 3500, DRW, CTD with 3.73 rears and Aisin transmission. On a similar grade I'm experiencing temps that are 10/15 degrees higher ( coolant and oil around 225), with the exception of the tramsmission, which ran 20 degrees lower than in my old truck. Does anybody have a similar experience or comments on the temp I experienced? The other thing I noticed is that the additional cooling fan kicks in at 228 instead of 217 degrees. The grade by the way was I70 westbound between Denver and Idaho Springs.

225 is where mine are going up Raton pass and similar hills.

My 2014 Ram runs between 210 and 220 on long, hard pulls

I think this is probably due to the higher rear end ratio. I relate it back when I was doing century tours (100 miles) on my bicycle in mountain country in new mexico with two big passes. If I didn't get the gearing changed correctly as needed, then I being the engine would heat up and suffer. John

My guess is they have cranked the temps up due to emissions. I have a '12 and 217 is my fan on temp and 68RFE is usually 80 degrees plus ambient.

My suggestion is to drop by the Cummins Engine forum and ask there.
