Broken welds
Has anyone had their welds break on the hydronic slide arms at the frame? Can they be repaired successfully? Suggestions? Ours broke and dropped the crossbar between the two slide arms causing it to rub on our tire.

2017 Montana 3790RD. No warranty left to work with a dealer on. Just have not heard on the forums of others having this issue and was wondering if any others had advice.

Been numerous reports of broken welds over the years, but I don’t remember one like that. I’m sure it can be rewelded, but may be more of a challenge than some. Just a matter of finding a qualified shop to do it. Someone here should be able to give a recommendation.

Im having a hard time figuring out where the pic occurs. Its a very nice close up pic - but i wish there was a similar photo from a few feet away.

I would reweld it and put a piece of angle iron on it to reinforce it. I wonder why it broke. I’ve not seen one break like this.

I don’t see any fresh steel. This break has been going on long enough oxidize.

Doesn’t appear to be much penetration on that broken weld and the metal it broke away from.

It is where the two arms of the hydraulic slide connects to the frame/I beam area. Those welds broke a few months ago and had them repaired 60 days ago and their repair welds broke. Trying to figure out what is causing the welds to break or perhaps we are just lucky.

Repair welds are 60 days old that failed.

Now you need to know if the welds were done properly or do you have another problem. Like something putting too much stress on those welds. What do the other welds look like?

My guess would be the welds we’re not properly repaired as we had a welder look at it and commented as such but he couldn’t fit us in for repairs. We had three welds break on these opposing slides. Two on fridge side one on dining slide. Was hoping others may have experience with this and had a reason it was happening.

Maybe drop the coroplast and reinforce on the inside and outside?
Get a good welder.
We broke a leaf spring hanger In Moab Utah. Found a good mobile welder in the area. Had to wait a week for him to get to us, but he did a really good job.

We finally, through the grace of God, found an amazing welder who dug into every part of the underbelly of our trailer. Not only were our welds broke but the frame had bent as a cross brace support underneath had broke. He straightened the frame, rebuilt the cross supports, fixed the welds and beefed up the frame supports. Finding someone in the industry to actually work on these rigs and not just put a bandaid on it is priceless.

The angle iron clip, where the hydralic piston attaches to the slide out arm snapped. I would look at what is causing the stress. In my case, my slideout was binding in the opening.

I would trust a good welding shop / welder every time vs an RV repair shop. Welding shops typically do a lot of fab work and understand stress points and reinforcement techniques.

Yes, I have seen this on my 2013 3582 unit. The result is that the slide would not operate properly; it would not extend and bind up. I ended up contacting a mobile welder to repair the damage. I have had experience with broken welds on my rig because Keystone/ Lippert does a piss poor job making quality welds. Instead, the crappy tack welds are not only frustrating for owners of this brand to get repaired, it is also a safety issue!!!

Thank you for posting this adventure you recently undertook.
What a great reminder to check the underside of your rig. Based on the reading, there were many broken welds concealed within the belly of your rig, which makes you wonder of this was the cause or a symptom of some other problem.
Based on this, I am going to engage the services of a welder to reinforce welds underneath my rig.
