AT&T’s ZTE Mobley Connect Car unlimited data plan? Help

I am grandfathered into AT&T’s ZTE Mobley Connect Car unlimited data plan. It has worked very well for the last 5 or 6 years. I am extremely happy with it. And want to be very careful not to lose my grandfather status. However, now that 2 grandchildren will be traveling with us there is more need for more devices to be on the Mobley hotspot Wi-Fi. Mobley has a limit of 5 devices that can be connected.

If I remember correctly from a number of years ago several people had taken the Sim card out of the AT&T Mobley and put it in a Netgear hotspot router or a different hotspot. Is there anyone out there still using the Mobley in a different hotspot router that can connect more than 5 devices at a time? If so what brand/model hotspot do you recommend?

Smile

All that information of the Mobley and using a Netgear Router I got from RV.Net. Now that the geniuses there have "enhanced the forum" it might be difficult to find the Thread again. I may have copied the text and saved it away. I will have to look. But I am pretty sure there have been more than 5 devices connected to my Mobley/Netgear (if I were to have one ) in the past

Here is a link to the "new" RV.Net forum (Ugh!) and the discussion about moving the Mobley SIM and what router to use. I see you actually posted on this discussion back in 2021.

All I can add to this is...I ditched my grandfathered ATT unlimited plan about 6 months ago. It's wasn't really unlimited....with all of the options out there I opted to get a T mobile data plan. I have a micro sim chip that's installed in my gateway. (Winegard) It's a true WiFi with no connection restrictions. There is a data cap at 50gb per month on the 4G plan but the 5G plan bumps up to 100gb. $50 a month for both.

Now that said...All providers share distribution. So if T Mobile doesn't have coverage it subs coverage with ATT or whomever it's contracted with and visa versa...So not perfect. When using sub coverage you don't get priority, so slower speeds.....

Elon can offer a better solution if you're willing to pay $100 a month.

At the end of the day I HAD to separate myself with ATT! Another sorry all together.

Another option that would be cheaper is to just get a small wifi router and connect it to the Mobley, then all your devices connect to the wifi router.
Here's a 12vdc option I use in our rig with the ATT Netgear Nighthawk.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Works beautifully and I don't have to reconnect all the devices in the rig each time I come and go.

I'm using this same one for my internet connection using Visible and my ZTE cell phone. We've connected up to 10 devices all the same time using this, streaming 2 televisions and running multiple computers. We use our ZTE phone and Visible ONLY for our internet connection. It works so well, when we are home, rather than using our home wifi (completely different source), she connects her work to the Visible. I'm connected to the Visible right now also, using that little router.

That little router has a range of 300 feet (or more). We have no issues running that router in the house and getting great internet connection inside our camper at home. And when it's hooked up inside the camper, no issues inside the house either.

When camping, we also have our AT&T phone hotspots (suppose to be unlimited). But we found our Visible works more reliable.

Here is a link to Amazon's offer (other places may be cheaper) of the Netgear Router that takes the Mobley SIM card. It supports up to 15 concurrent devices.

And here is a manual for the Netgear router

I think Elon's system raised prices to $150 almost 6 mo to a year ago.
