Microwave Breaker Blows

Before I go taking out the microwave to search for an issue. Has anyone had a similar issue as I just developed? I parked last Thursday at campground after 1500 mile ride and twice now I have went to pull my high point convection/microwave door open and when the unit is pulled on the breaker blows. Obviously, shorting somewhere? Maybe cord pinched or rubbed? Anyone have this happen?

Known issue. The door switches go bad and a safety feature blows the fuse to prevent user being irradiated with microwaves.
You can replace the door switches but they will go bad again and you will be back to square one. Many (us included) just replaced the microwave.

Been there and done that. Just replace it, fairly easy. A residential one is less expensive than a RV specific unit.

My microwave quit in 2022. Started looking at Bestbuy for a replacement. Problem is most of the new residential ones are about 1/2 to 1 inch taller. And my unit has the stove fold up cover underneath. I had about 1/4 inch of clearance. I finally found one and went to the store to actually measure it. It fits perfectly, but since it kind of takes 2 people to remove and replace them unless you are a linebacker, I opted to pay a dealer to replace it. Works great now. Oh, also it was 6 years old, so maybe it didn't like bouncing down roads in USA and to AK. LOL

I just experienced failure in late October. I pulled the switches and one was fused/weld on the contacts. I freed it and cleaned it for it to fail after another 10-15 cycles. I chose to replace and bought this stainless steel GE 1.6CF, 1000W replacement at Lowe's for $199. It still on sale today.

It was the same size. I had to replace the back rear bracket and drill two new holes in the cabinet above, but otherwise it was a 45 minute swap.

As noted, the door switch issue is a common problem, notably with users who tend to open the door while the unit is still nuking. This apparently resulted in arcing in the switch and ultimate failure. Newer High Pointe models seem to have addressed that issue. Many have suggested replacing the High Pointe RV unit with a "residential" model, however, if you value the convection function of the High Pointe your replacement options will be limited. Also depth and height dimensions of most residential units are larger than the High Pointe, so, again, choose carefully.
