Tank Level Indicators

We have a 2023 Montana 3901RK. My tank level indicators show 1/3 full even when empty. I have tried different flush techniques and flushing liquids and powders but still they show 1/3 even when empty. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Lots and lots and lots of discussions about tank sensors that don't work. The only "trick" I've found to keep them working, is to dump your tanks completely before traveling. Then add about about 5 gallons of water to each tank, squirt some dish washing liquid down the toilet, or down the drains, and drive to your next destination. The sloshing of the water beating against the sensors will help clean them off.

What happening is, "gunk" get caught on them inside the tank, fooling the sensors into thinking the tank is full.

Your fresh water tank should work pretty accurate most of the time.

What you need to do is learn to pay close attention how much water you are using, listen to the sound of the water hitting the bottom of the tank when you flush your toilet to hear the different sound of the pitch with the water hitting the bottom, and / or use a water meter to monitor how much water you actually use .... or at specific intervals of time, dump your tanks automatically.

Sensors very seldom, if ever, actually work right. Finding another way to monitor your tanks is the best way to do that.

My Mopeka sensors work great. I haven't had any problems. Batteries don't last very long. About 3 months.

Glenn,

The only one I ever look at is the fresh water. No need for the others, you will learn how often you should dump.

Mopeka now makes holding tank sensors.
We have had the propane tank sensors for years. They work great.
It's on my "to do" list to buy and install Mopeka holding tanks sensors.

Ours were correct when we pulled out unit off the dealer lot. Once we put it on a seasonal lot, we never look at the gauges; we can tell it is time to dump by the sound of the water going from the toilet to the tank.

Lots of guys here have favored the “burp” method for dumping the black tank. When you flush, if there is a burp upward, the vent line has been covered in the tank and it is time to dump. I usually just open the gray valves when I am camped, then close them the day before departure to allow sufficient flushing volume on draining before departure. Of course, if you have a clothes washer, leave that gray tank valve open, to prevent flooding.

Didn't know they made sensors for holding tanks? I use them on my LP tanks.
