I agree that Keystone might be using Schwintek mechanisms on smaller slides for the Montana line. I don’t know if that is true for ALL Keystone products however.
VROOM Slide Systems (Phoenix AZ ?) was born out of the need to replace Schwintek systems in motor homes and fifth wheels with BIG slides - too big for Schwintek to handle. I don’t know the exact history but it seems that this has been a problem for a decade or more. I have no idea if VROOM can replace a cable slide system.

Size does mater... My bedroom slide is at least 10' long. It has the king bed and the bathroom storage/washer, dryer closet. Not that heavy at the moment but add a washer/dryer.

Like Tony stated, leveling your fifth wheel side to side with leveling blocks beneath the low side wheels prior to auto leveling is of great importance as well.
EDIT: I use these to level our fifth wheel side to side, but blocks, pads or various thickness boards can be used.

Lee has got it right but not complete. if your slide is extended, before you retract it, hold the extend button for five second to sync Motors. You will notice that the slide has creeped in a bit while you were sitting. Retract slide and hold for 5 seconds. If slide is retracted, before extending, hold retract button for 5 seconds to sync. Again you will notice your slide has crept out a little. Extend slide and hold for 5 seconds. This system has never let me down. Second coach with Schwintek slides.

Schwintek Slide Problems
Schwintek slides are junk - just ask any rv repair tech. Take a look at VROOM Slide mechanism in Tucson.

Not true, I have talked to many techs regarding schwintek. If installed properly, in the right application and operated correctly, works great.

Mine has the washer/dryer, king bed, nightstand and a large closet (full of stuff) in 16' of slide. It is heavy. It isn't a Schwintek but rather a cable slide on rollers. I would prefer a hydraulic slide, but that wasn't an option.

I agree they should use hyd in place of Schwintek

We had that problem with our Shwintek slide. My husband figured out the controller was good, so we bought new wiring harness. He didn't have a chance to try that before he had emergency surgery. While in the hospital, I called a mobile tech and they figured out the rod/pin that runs between the bottom gears and the top gears had dropped. They ended up installing new H frame on both sides (when you replace one you have to replace other side). Works perfectly now.

The older unit slides had a motor driven i believe rack and pinion.

My ‘93 Alpenlite 29RK had an electric motor “rack and pinion” system for the slide. It was geared low and slow…it took a while to extend and retract - but it always worked. No idea if Keystone used this type system in older Montana units.
James the AZ RV Expert has a YouTube video where he replaces a rotten plywood floor of a bedroom slide on an older Montana (I don’t know the graphics well enough to identify the year or model). It was interesting to me to watch his process, and also to see the hydraulic ram that they used for the bedroom slide.

I do not believe Montana ever used a motor driven rack and pinion type drive system. My friends early 2000 2950 had all (2) hydraulic slides. I once saw an early Mountaineer (1999), but I have no idea what operated its slide.

I have a 2022 331 RL and the only schwintek slide is the bedroom slide. The 2 slides in main area are both rack and pinion. I believe in 2022 they have given up cable slides.
I have heard from several reputable sources that the schwintek slides are reliable if used in the right application which is lighter slides like a bed slide. Also critical that they are opened and closed fully.

This is a picture of a 2023 HC 295RL. Looks like maybe they went back to cable on that slide, although others are showing schwintek, maybe a mid-year change?
My rig is the picture below. The schwintek bedroom slide is much smaller, both length and height. I’m guessing a lot easier to keep the opening square.
