Rock Tamers or Tow Tectors
Looking to protect the Monty from rocks, etc while towing. Choices down to Rock Tamers or Tow Tectors. Looking for opinions from those who have them. Thanks

We've had Rock Tamers for about 4 years. They work and they last.

You didn't tell us what type of truck you have. Is it SRW or DRW? I and several others here have the Rock Tamers and we are all pleased with them. But we are all SRW trucks. Others here (RichFAA for example) are less pleased with their Rock Tamers on a DRW. I haven't used or even heard of the TowTectors before, but I would think a full width system would be better for a DRW.

We have the Towtector on a dually and have been extremely pleased with the results. While our limited towing schedule (3-4000 miles per year) may not provide a true assessment, I can report that we have no paint chipping on the front of our rig which is the full body paint. We do have the Towtector with the double set of whiskers. The Towtector is full coverage other then about 6-8 inches in the center where it attaches to the hitch receiver.

I have used Go Industies mud flaps for over five years. Extremely well built and have anti-sail bars and weights. They look great and perform well. Not a single rock mark on any RV I pulled. I like my truck looking nice and the flaps hanging off the back bumper are not my cup of tea. I have these mounted low on purpose. They drag under rare conditions, but show no damage. Give them a good look.

We used our Rock Tamers for almost 3 years of full timing and a lot of miles. They still looked new. I like the option of being able to remove them in seconds when not towing.

Like A Gordon, I'm not a fan of a big piece of rubber all across the rear of my truck no matter how well it works or how quick it comes off. Get a good pair of truck flaps and cut them to fit. Most importantly ... fab or buy a set of sails to mount with the flaps. If you don't use sails, no matter how long the flap, the wind will blow it back and reduce its overall length and effectiveness.

We use the rock tamers on our Dually and they sort of work. The paint on our 13 Big Sky is crap and the front panel even with the rock tamers chipped badly. We had the front panel line X'ed @ 2 years ago and have exactly 4 minor chips since them.
My problem was the crappy full body paint.99% of stone hits bounce off the line X. I do believe they work better on SWD trucks.

Guess I'm better off with my older Ford as it came with mud flaps that I believe are stock and work very well. They're not molded, just rubber flaps with sturdy metal rods that keep them down. Could be their commercial types, but all I do know is they really keep rocks & debris off the Monty. And that's after about 20k towing miles.

With the white gel coat on the 06 3400 chips were not all that noticeable however my 13 3402 big sky started life as a off the line 3402 then was painted. In My case the paint is very thin and when a stone hit the front under hang it chipped the paint off to expose the white gel coat underneath .It was not a pretty sight.
I noted several at the fall rally with the same issue. Line X solved that problem for us but it was expensive.
